Source of "Destructive plate margin"

Hi, is it possible to get the SVG source of your image "Destructive plate margin" for a school project?

Thanks very much!

Unfortunately, I didn't draw it in a program with SVG support. Fredrik | talk 11:59, 7 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Nice Picture but wrong and deadly for people without specific knowledge. First it is too overscaled. Ok it's impossible to show the real relations but some points must be shown to get the point even if the theme is new to somebody. Second it looks like the mantle is fluid but ist simply isn't. There's no pool of magma or anything like that, so red color underneath the crust is "dangerous" in such an image. --Saperaud 02:00, 29 Mar 2005 (UTC)

I was aware of that. Unfortunately, all other images I had looked at were significantly worse. I'll be happy to improve it if I get more specific information. Fredrik | talk 17:21, 30 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Hey, this image is really nice! I was almost sending you a mail when I noticed this topic, well, do you have it in a higher resolution? Thank you. --Henriquevicente 19:28, Apr 10, 2005 (UTC)Henrique Vicente

Thank you for the tables!

I really like your tables. I used it on my wiki Homepage. It's still under construction. I've only been using Wiki for 24 hours so I'm really new to it, but Thank you immensely. It made sorting out my work much easier.

Hello!

Thank you for the friendly greeting. I have a question for you: What variable do you use to insert the date in your 'signature'? I've looked around and couldn't find a short and simple one in the docs. - Jon^D (typing things manually) Tue Mar 22 12:02:17 GMT 2005

Doom

I'm just wondering if all of those awesome map pages on your doom wiki are under a usable license and are encyclopedic enough to be a part of Wikipedia? gren 03:13, 23 Mar 2005 (UTC)

All content on the Doom Wiki is GFDL (except some fair use images) and can therefore be imported to Wikipedia. I'm not sure about whether it's encyclopedic, though... - Fredrik | talk 21:49, 23 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Research project on wiki contributors

Hello-

I am aware that this is not the typical message usually posted, so I would like to apologize and ask for your kind understanding. I am a PhD student at Syracuse University School of Information Studies. My advisor and I are working on a research project on contributors to Wikis. This project received Institutional Review Board Approval number 05048. I would like to have a brief email dialog with you about your experience as a Wikipedia contributor. Please respond to this posting or send me an email at wikiresearch@hotmail.com, if you would be willing to answer a couple of quick questions. I would like to assure you that your comments will remain confidential.

Pic of the Day

Hi Fredrik,

Just to let you know that your illustration Image:Circlestrafing.png is coming up for reuse on the 25th of April. I've reused the caption from last time, but you can check it at Wikipedia:Picture of the day/April 25, 2005. -- Solipsist 21:52, 21 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Trinity anniversary

July 16, 2005 —two months from now—will be the 60th anniversary of the "Trinity" test. I'm trying to organize a few people into getting that article to featured quality before then, anticipating a lot of general news coverage and curious minds. I've noticed you doing good work on Manhattan Project-related articles in the past, so I thought I would see if you were interested in helping out. Please see the discussion at Talk:Trinity site for some of my further thoughts on what should be present in the article, and please feel free to share you own. Thanks! --Fastfission 19:04, 15 May 2005 (UTC)

Pic of the day

Hi Fredrik,

Just to let you know that your illustration Image:Painter's algorithm.png is making a reappearance as Pic of the Day on the 29th May. I've used the same caption as last time, but you can make any changes at Wikipedia:Picture of the day/May 29, 2005. -- Solipsist 16:42, 25 May 2005 (UTC)

Wikipedia Entry

Please don't remove my entry of "Wikipedia is a Wholly remarkable website" because A: It's true, and B: It is a funny referance to the novel "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy" In no way do I believe it is offensive or off topic. Thanks, 64.132.172.213

It's your opinion. Wikipedia articles are concerned with facts. Fredrik | talk 17:20, 26 May 2005 (UTC)

change to Base64 article

Hi - You made a change to the Base64 article I'm not sure I understand (changing a wikilink to a external link to the wiki). I assume most mirrors can handle most wikilinks, is the issue specifically links from article namespace to other namespaces? I'm not exactly a newbie - is this a policy/guideline I've simply never run into? Thanks. -- Rick Block 00:05, 28 May 2005 (UTC)

Pages in the article namespace should not refer to other namespaces. Even if mirrors choose to keep the Wikipedia: namespace intact (they may not), forks most likely will not. Also, in some mirrors and most forks, Wikipedia:Foo will probably point to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Foo, if it works at all. See also Wikipedia:Avoid self-references. Fredrik | talk 09:57, 28 May 2005 (UTC)
That's pretty much what I thought (and makes sense). Thanks for verifying. -- Rick Block (talk) 16:56, May 28, 2005 (UTC)

Blocking message

  • 21:27, May 28, 2005, Fredrik blocked 172.148.206.215 (expires 21:27, May 29, 2005) (contribs) (unblock) (vandalism)
  • 21:14, May 28, 2005, Fredrik blocked 172.147.138.253 (expires 21:14, May 29, 2005) (contribs) (unblock) (vandalism)
Would you please enter a more informative reason in the field next time you block someone? The reason you fill in is displayed when the blocked person tries to edit. IPs are often used by multiple people and even for the person being blocked it's not always clear why and such messages aren't helpful. Mgm|(talk) 22:31, May 28, 2005 (UTC)
In the case of a user that makes seven consecutive edits like this one (http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Anal_sex&diff=prev&oldid=14373556), using two different IPs, the reason should be clear.
But what else is there to say? It is not the purpose of the block summary to explain to the user that the IP is blocked because someone else might have vandalized pages with it; this should be handled automatically by the software (I haven't been blocked so I don't know if it is). I don't think it's helpful for people who end up blocked accidentally to read that they are blocked for "changing articles into redirects to George W. Bush" as opposed to just having "vandalized pages", since in both cases it's something they haven't done.
Besides, these IPs had not been used by any other users. When I notice that a vandal's IP has been used earlier for constructive purposes, I try to stay away from blocking as far as possible (usually vandals get bored after a while and go away). Fredrik | talk 22:46, 28 May 2005 (UTC)

Images

On your Images page where your Dads are there is code visible. You may want to fix this. Please notify me on my userpage if you are going to reply. • Thorpe • 15:22, 29 May 2005 (UTC)

It was originally in there in the original article. This is why I left an alteration of it.

Flag

Hi there. I have modified the colors of the Swedish flag. I saw your name there. I'm going to try and utilize the cache-delay of the database as long as it lasts to show you the differences. This I do by putting one new resclaed image and one that is in the cache. If the cache has been updated when you read this, feel free to delete this entire paragraph.

Swedish flag

Flag 1 is "new" flag. This is, I think, the official flag, how it "should" look. Flag 2 is the previous version.

All the best, --Fred-Chess 20:10, 3 Jun 2005 (UTC)

sup

e^pi sqrt(163)

Hi Fredrik, do you think that formula really belongs where you have put it? I think it fits better under "formulae involving pi", say under number theory (or conceivably even under geometry or complex analysis). The problem is that it's actually not very useful as a "numerical approximation for pi" for several reasons. It takes a lot of work to compute, and I don't think that the 31 digits you get are worth it. I think there should also be a link back to the complex multiplication page. One day there will be more information there about why the formula "works". What say ye? Dmharvey Missing image

In fact, the "numerical approximations of pi" section needs some cleanup to distinguish between historical (now poor) approximations, useful ones, and just curious ones. I think this one might fit under "curious approximations". But if you prefer it to be under "formulae", go ahead and change it :) - Fredrik | talk 14:20, 6 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Big bang diagram

Hello. You appear to be the last person modifying "Image:Universe_expansion.png". There's been some discussion on Talk:Big Bang about altering the shape of the initial fireburst. If you are the creator of the image, would you be willing to do this?--Christopher Thomas 00:04, 23 Jun 2005 (UTC)
