If you create new articles, please put in some information, not just person's name. Thanks! Andris 20:06, Jun 2, 2004 (UTC)

Yeah, ditto on that. Please, consider choosing one senator and writing his bio? I'm moving to have any pages you make with just a name speedy deleted, in accordance with our deletion policy. Atleast write one paragraph and add a stub notice with . Cheers, Dunc_Harris| 20:23, 2 Jun 2004 (UTC)

Thanks for your notes. I've now started adding more content when I create a page. For the ones I've done already with just a name, I'll go back and add more content.

No problem. I see you are a nice chap and all that and helping the 'pedia, :) but could you please quickly run through the welcome, newcomers, particularly Wikipedia:tutorial so you know how to put in the blue links. Cheers, Dunc_Harris| 20:30, 2 Jun 2004 (UTC)

FYI, I killed off a few of your names-only pages today before I realized what kind of collection you were creatingso you may have to re-create some of them. Personally, I find it helpful to create bios offline, then create pages and dump in the text - especially when making a bunch of pages with similar format. - DavidWBrooks 20:33, 2 Jun 2004 (UTC)

I've re-made small stubs for two of them. (Chip Pickering and Frank Lucas. Niteowlneils 20:47, 2 Jun 2004 (UTC)

I can tell. I like what you've added to Ernest Istook, for example--I just added a few links. Niteowlneils 21:32, 2 Jun 2004 (UTC)

Rockefeller Republicans

Hi. Please note that I moved your article "Rockefeller Republicans" to "List of liberal U.S. Republicans"; see Talk:List of liberal U.S. Republicans for my reasons. Note that there was an older existing article at Rockefeller Republican which I guess you were unaware of. Once links to your article are cleaned up, I suggest that "Rockefeller Republicans" be changed from a rediect to "List of liberal U.S. Republicans" into a redirect to "Rockefeller Republican". Cheers, -- Infrogmation 17:23, 12 Jun 2004 (UTC)

Seen you've done a great deal on Ohio politicians--thought you might be interesting in commenting on Wikipedia:WikiProject U.S. politicians. Keep up the good work! jengod 21:04, Aug 4, 2004 (UTC)

Thanks for straightening me out on the Tafts and their names. Appreciate it! Tim 15:30, Aug 5, 2004 (UTC)

Recent edits to Clinton article

I see you've expanded the "Accusations, impeachment, and legal problems" section of the Bill Clinton article. Unfortunately, I believe some of it will be considered non-NPOV and much of it belongs, perhaps, in other articles dealing with specific scandals (whether they currently exist or not). I have no strong interest myself in maintaining the Clinton article so please don't take this as an attack; I just figured I'd give you a friendly warning before you start seeing others reverting your edits. Also, I see that you're a journalist. You might need to try extra hard to resist turning the presidential bio pages into newspaper exposés. ;-) See also What wikipedia is not. - dcljr 19:38, 11 Aug 2004 (UTC)

You asked me to check out the Bill Clinton article again. The "Accusations..." section seems fine now, except the figure $850,000 is mentioned twice. Other than that it looks good. - dcljr 16:39, 31 Aug 2004 (UTC)

Ohio State Government

In response to your note on my talk page: My source for elected officials is Official Roster of Federal, State, and County Officers and The Ohio Municipal, Township and School Board Roster, both published by the Ohio Secretary of State. It looks like that information is also available on the Secretary of State's web site. [1] (http://www.sos.state.oh.us/sos/) Unfortunately, it doesn't look to go down to the level of local zoning board and so forth. That information may only be available at the local level. State court

Great job with the table!

I did make one change in Georgia - the only state of which I am qualified to speak - from "Circuit Superior Court" to "Superior Court". Pleadings, orders &c. are captioned "Superior Court of _______ County", although judges and D.A.'s normally have their stationery, signatures etc. Judge/District Attorney for the ______________ Judicial Circuit.

Thanks! Ellsworth 13:24, 14 Sep 2004 (UTC)

Good job with the continued markup. Keep it up. Ellsworth

Ohio House of Representatives

Thanks for turning the stub I created (because I don't like red links) into a decent reference. It gave me a warm feeling to see it. Rich Farmbrough 10:47, 23 Sep 2004 (UTC)

Another Political Junkie from Ohio

Thanks for the kind words. I'd seen your handle on some of the pages I'd worked on, e.g. my former congressman, Frank Cremeans. I've also expanded some articles you began, John W. Griffin, Thomas Kindness, Bill Harsha. Good to read your article on the lady challenging Michael R. Turner this year. That's my congressional district and I didn't know anything about her save her name. You've probably seen it, but I've a long list of articles I've made sizable contributions to on my user page including many in legal and political biography. For example, I put the predecessor/successor boxes on all the associate justices of the Supreme Court and wrote blurbs on all the reporters save the current one who I haven't been able to find anything on.
May I make one suggestion about creating new biographies? If you create articles under a nickname, e.g. Tom Kindness, would you put in redirects under the full name? I didn't see your Kindness article at first and started writing either under Thomas or Thomas N, then combined the two. I know I'm guilty of this as well because when I went to look at my own Charles Sanders article just now, I couldn't find it because I'd entered it under Charles W. Sanders.
If I can be of help, let me know. PedanticallySpeaking 17:18, Oct 7, 2004 (UTC)

Getting in the Way

My apologies if I bumped into you on the Government of Ohio article. I saw it down on my watchlist where you'd worked on it earlier today and took a look, which spurred me to make a couple revisions to the section on the State Board of Ed. I just noticed from the edit history you were on there at the same time and I probably caused you an edit conflict. I do apologize.
One useful wikipedia call is to put the "inuse" template at the top of a page you are editing. That will put up a flag warning everyone to step aside because you are working. I use this especially when I'm making a lot of edits because some of our eagle-eyed contributors waste no time to start editing. But be careful to delete it when you are done or else people will grumble. Ave atque vale! PedanticallySpeaking 16:10, Oct 19, 2004 (UTC)

Dick Zimmer

Oops. You're right. As far as I can tell they are both named Richard A. Zimmer. If I knew what their initials stood for I'd make Dick Zimmer a disambig page with their full names for their own pages. How would you like to proceed. Something like Dick Zimmer (commissioner) and Dick Zimmer (representative)? AlistairMcMillan 00:16, 20 Oct 2004 (UTC)

cut and paste moves

Please avoid moving a page by cutting and pasting it's contents into a new location. The appropiate action is to use the "move" tab at the top of the page, which opens a page asking for the new title. Additionally, when moving a page, please be sure no double redirects are created, as happened at Ted Roosevelt. Thanks. Gentgeen 19:26, 21 Oct 2004 (UTC)

It's My Party And I'll Cry If I Want To

Acesnray,
I copied the party affiliations of the Secretaries of State from the list in the back of the Ohio Secretary of State's "Official Roster of Federal, State and County Officers" (Columbus, Ohio: The Secretary, biennial). The one Secretary with no party listed in the Wikipedia article is also blank in the book. The older editions have information deleted from the newer, such as the legal descriptions of the Congressional districts from the first apportionment onward. I debating whether I want to get involved with posting that. Ave! PedanticallySpeaking 15:54, Oct 22, 2004 (UTC)

Kit Bond

Was there any discussion about moving Christopher S. Bond to Kit Bond? Even though he is widely know as "Kit", isn't it somewhat unusual to list a person under their nickname instead of their given name? --Kbh3rd 18:30, 18 Nov 2004 (UTC)

Stylebook

  • Salve, Acesnray!
Haven't seen you much lately. Hope all is well along the Potomac. Your changes to Bob McEwen and a couple other articles popped up on my watchlist and I noticed you made some changes regarding numbers, changing words to numbers, and replacing the word "percent" with the percent symbol. I was taught in school to spell out numbers under one-hundred and in journalism class to always use the word percent in stories rather than the symbol and our stylebook endorses the latter while says either is acceptable on the former. See Wikipedia:Manual_of_Style_(dates_and_numbers)#Number_names. Ave atque vale! PedanticallySpeaking 15:45, Nov 19, 2004 (UTC)
  • Salve!
I was looking in the wrong column in the "compare versions". You changed it to "percent" from "%". Sorry about that. Some of us can't read. I'm going to make a proposal to the stylebook re spelling out numbers. To me, it just looks odd to see "24". I do recognize the AP uses numerals, but we don't have the same space concerns as they or printed reference works do. I'm going to make queries about where to post my proposal and when get it up, I'll let you know so you can offer your comments. One other thing. You've been putting up results for this months elections; will you be sure to get the final numbers when the elections are certified? Ave atque vale! PedanticallySpeaking 16:01, Nov 19, 2004 (UTC)

Dayton, Ohio

Hi. I hadn't realized or remembered about the west-central placement for Dayton. I went to high school in Xenia, but that was some years ago. Anyway, I added "west-central" back to the intro and made a few other changes. See what you think. Maurreen 05:33, 20 Nov 2004 (UTC)

List of U.S. political families

Hi there! I'm glad you want to contribute to the List of U.S. political families, but please note that it is, strictly speaking, confined to family members who are politically active. Neil Bush, Barbara and Jenna Bush, etc., are not politically active at present (although who knows about the future?), so they should not be included. Moreover, the list is not meant to be a scandallog. It's not a place to include Bush's daughters' underage drinking (which you put in) or Kennedy's nephews cocaine snorting (which you didn't). Therefore, I have reverted your latest edits. If you want to print scandal, however, List of notable U.S. presidential relatives is the perfect place for you - Neil Bush is already there, you can add Barbara and Jenna if you wish, etc. David Cannon 08:22, 20 Nov 2004 (UTC)

Howdy. I've been going back and forth on whether to delete the Hagans and Riffes from the List of U.S. Political Families page, and I figured I'd drop you a friendly note before doing anything rash. The talk page on that article seems to have dried up and I never got any responses to my query about what threshhold should be set for calling a family a "U.S." family, as opposed to something else, as part of my mission to clean up and standardize that page. Neither the Hagans nor the Riffes seem to have contributed any individuals to any national political office; the number of families with multiple members active in state and county politics in all the states is enormous, especially if history is taken into account, and I can't justify trying to add all those families. While the Hagans and Riffes are no doubt notable in Ohio, I don't believe they belong on a page devoted to nationally notable families. I'm leaning toward deleting, but I'll let you have your say if you wish. Perhaps a page of Ohio political families is in order. Thehappysmith 04:48, 20 Feb 2005 (UTC)

This article started by you has been blanked by two anon's claiming it's inaccurate. I've reverted it, but I thouhgt I'd mention it to you, in case you had some response. JesseW 03:47, 21 Nov 2004 (UTC)

Number of votes per voter in a multimember at-large election?

Suppose that we are electing a school board or town council where there are no districts, and the election is "at large". Suppose that there are N vacancies. The voter might have 1 vote to cast amongst the several candidates, or N votes, or 1 <= M <= N. Which applies in Cincinnati, Ohio. How many names must a voter cross off on the ballot paper?

If the answer is N, then the board or council is likely to be run by a landslide result, with no representation from other parties, even the second biggest party.

If the answer is M, then a landslide is less likely, and there is likely to be some reprentation from the second biggest party.

If the answer is 1, then there is likely to be wide selection of representation of big and small parties.

Thus the number of votes per voter is important.

PS I just noticed that the discussion for the Cinncinati elections left of the heading "How Many Votes per voter". DRAT.

Article Licensing

Hi, I've started a drive to get users to multi-license all of their contributions that they've made to either (1) all U.S. state, county, and city articles or (2) all articles, using the Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike (CC-by-sa) v1.0 and v2.0 Licenses or into the public domain if they prefer. The CC-by-sa license is a true free documentation license that is similar to Wikipedia's license, the GFDL, but it allows other projects, such as WikiTravel, to use our articles. Since you are among the top 1000 Wikipedians by edits, I was wondering if you would be willing to multi-license all of your contributions or at minimum those on the geographic articles. Over 90% of people asked have agreed. For More Information:

To allow us to track those users who muli-license their contributions, many users copy and paste the "DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual" template into their user page, but there are other options at Template messages/User namespace. The following examples could also copied and pasted into your user page:

Option 1
I agree to multi-license all my contributions, with the exception of my user pages, as described below:
DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual

OR

Option 2
I agree to multi-license all my contributions to any U.S. state, county, or city article as described below:
DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual

Or if you wanted to place your work into the public domain, you could replace "DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual" with "MultiLicensePD". If you only prefer using the GFDL, I would like to know that too. Please let me know what you think at my talk page. It's important to know either way so no one keeps asking. -- Ram-Man (comment (http://en.wikipedia.org/w/wiki.phtml?title=User_talk:Ram-Man&action=edit&section=new)| talk) 18:07, Dec 8, 2004 (UTC)

If Voting Changed Anything . . .

Salve, Acsenray!
Hope this message finds you well. I saw the neat article you were working on the many Ohio towns that aren't in the county with that name (e.g. Hamilton, Warren, Butlerville, Clintonville). I had been thinking of doing something like that myself. Glad to see you put it together.
Today I did two short articles on Ohio government, Ohio State Board of Education (largely copied from one of the other government articles) and Ohio Ballot Board. I continued work on User:PedanticallySpeaking/In Progress, which when finished will be moved to Ohio election law. Let me know what you think of them.
Finally, it appears I somehow forgot to send you a note about my WP:RFA candidacy. I'd appreciate your vote here. Ave! PedanticallySpeaking 19:10, Dec 15, 2004 (UTC)

Ohio Oddities

Salve, Acsenray!
Thanks for your congrats on my election. I was delighted with the positive comments I got in the election, even if the same issue as last time was drug up. I posted a comment in support of your peculiarities article here, that cites an example of the real confusion out there re our towns not being in the similiarly named county. Ave! Salve, Acsenray!
Haven't seen you in a while. Hope you are well. I radically expanded this article and nom'd it as a FAC. I'd appreciate your vote here (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Featured_article_candidates/Bob_McEwen). PedanticallySpeaking 18:59, May 26, 2005 (UTC)
