Current Wikistress (Borrowed from Lucky)

Hi! Not so new here anymore. ;) I've figured this stuff out. The Be bold directive is most useful. Anyway, my name is Andrew, and thus far, I've made nearly 8000 edits, many to entries relevant to the two places I've spent most of my life - Washington, DC, and the Charlotte area of North Carolina. Specifically, I've done 95% of the work on the Washington Metro and its stations.

I'm also heavily involved in United States Congressional delegations, because ... I dunno. Tables are pretty. (See US Congressional Delegations from California for my best example). I also love assisting in horizontal research; that is, the footer tables that say "President" and preceded and succeeded by. Very easy navigation with those.

At present, since I live in North Carolina, I'm also very involved in the 2004 Atlantic hurricane season and 2005 Atlantic hurricane season and its updates. I've helped make links for all hurricane names to the proper articles and seasons, and next plan to go through the pre-1979 seasons. Whew.

They made me an Administrator on September 29, 2004.

Project: Wikipedia:WikiProject Stations, because I'm a subway nut, and this was barely started then seemingly abandoned months ago. However, I don't know how useful this is... mental note: Ask.

I attended Emerson Preparatory School (started) and The George Washington University (destubbed); The major pages I've created are First Union and Barber-Scotia College; and I have, at present, over 1000 pages on my watch list. (Needs pruning. Badly.)

Wikistress: Must remain calm and unpolitical... I am here, at the moment, to add information, not to engage in fights. Anything can be cleaned up by others. I do, however, seem to have a gift with POV issues. I tried to do a small rewrite of anarcho-capitalism but it was essentially undone within a week; I can only hope to go back to it someday and try again. Same deal with Korea - There's someone there who's constantly inserting anti-Japan stuff, while staying just south of POV issues. Maybe someday. I find it easier to walk away from pages rather than get personally involved; the way of Wikipedia is that all issues will be resolved in time. There are always other articles I can work on.

At 0911UTC on June 19, 2005, I made my 10,000th edit, to Rambo: First Blood Part II

TIP: If you find your wikistress is reaching high levels, or if you're hitting your watchlist every 20 seconds, here's a tip: Hit alt-x instead. I've found that browsing random pages and making edits on them is not only a great way to gain knowledge, but it's a nice way to contribute to Wikipedia and not be too emotionally involved at the moment.

Look upon my works, ye Mighty, and despair!

I agree to multi-license all my contributions, with the exception of my user pages, as described below: Template:DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual

In particular, my maps (I have drawn many national subdivision maps; my personal bests are Image:Algeria provinces numbered.png and Image:Azerbaijan rayons numbered.pnh) are licensed specifically under CC-by-SA as well as the GFDL, available for anyone to use as they see fit.

About my name

Yes, it's from a video game. But I'm not one of those people who just runs around with a video game name thinking he's cool. I'm not cool at all. ...

Anyway, way back in 1991/1992, when I first joined Prodigy, I hooked up with the "Final Fantasy fan clubs" (what do you expect, I was 11) and, needing a name, and always being horrible (still to this day!) at making up my own name, I took the first name from Final Fantasy 2 that I saw wasn't used - Golbez.

It's grown to just be the nickname I use. That happens after using the same name for 13 years. *shrug* Hell, I even have girlfriends who have called me "Golbie." So there.

Notable Achievements

Admin policies

Let me put these right out here:

  1. No mercy for vandals. If you vandalize a page, you will be warned. If you vandalize again with fluffy stuff, you will be warned again. On the other hand, if you vandalize maliciously, you will be blocked. If you vandalize a front-page article maliciously, you will be blocked without warning, as that can easily damage Wikipedia's reputation. I will consider a clean slate after a month, removing old warnings from anyone, in case the IP has changed hands.
  2. Personally, I think Speedy Delete should be expanded. Too much stuff clogs up VfD. But until this happens, I will remain within the strict lines of Speedy.
  3. You can always contest any action with me. Please do.
  4. I will not typically protect for vandalism; I figure, if I can do that, I can also block the vandal, which does more good than protection. I will, however, protect, without warning, any high traffic page that has been doubled. Sorry, but if it's so high traffic, it would double the time to fix if I inserted a notice. Please understand. I will as quickly as I can fix the doubling, and unprotect it.

I have other ideas that I need to formulate and present to the population at large, in particular the second version of my Semantic Wikipedia propsal.
