As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there are 868 people, 321 households, and 234 families residing in the village. The population density is 761.7/km² (1,962.0/mi²). There are 347 housing units at an average density of 304.5/km² (784.4/mi²). The racial makeup of the village is 23.50% White, 57.95% African American, 0.46% Native American, 14.06% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.58% from other races, and 3.46% from two or more races. 1.38% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 321 households out of which 47.4% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 24.6% are married couples living together, 42.4% have a female householder with no husband present, and 26.8% are non-families. 24.3% of all households are made up of individuals and 10.3% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.70 and the average family size is 3.20.
In the village the population is spread out with 41.8% under the age of 18, 9.0% from 18 to 24, 22.4% from 25 to 44, 16.9% from 45 to 64, and 9.9% who are 65 years of age or older.
