Upper Nyack, New York

Upper Nyack is a village located in Rockland County, New York. As of the 2000 census, the village had a total population of 1,863.

The Village of Upper Nyack is at the east border of the Town of Clarkstown.

Geography

The village is on the west bank of the Hudson River.

Upper Nyack is located at 41°6'28" North, 73°55'21" West (41.107763, -73.922529)Template:GR.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 11.0 km² (4.2 mi²). 3.4 km² (1.3 mi²) of it is land and 7.5 km² (2.9 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 68.56% water.

Demographics

As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there are 1,863 people, 712 households, and 524 families residing in the village. The population density is 544.9/km² (1,406.8/mi²). There are 732 housing units at an average density of 214.1/km² (552.7/mi²). The racial makeup of the village is 92.54% White, 3.33% African American, 0.05% Native American, 2.31% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.43% from other races, and 1.34% from two or more races. 4.13% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 712 households out of which 31.5% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 64.3% are married couples living together, 6.5% have a female householder with no husband present, and 26.4% are non-families. 21.9% of all households are made up of individuals and 9.8% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.58 and the average family size is 3.01.

In the village the population is spread out with 22.1% under the age of 18, 4.1% from 18 to 24, 24.2% from 25 to 44, 33.9% from 45 to 64, and 15.6% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 45 years. For every 100 females there are 92.1 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 86.3 males.

The median income for a household in the village is $91,156, and the median income for a family is $103,049. Males have a median income of $66,607 versus $41,406 for females. The per capita income for the village is $52,368. 3.4% of the population and 2.4% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 0.8% of those under the age of 18 and 6.6% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
