Tomahawk (town), Wisconsin

Tomahawk is a town located in Lincoln County, Wisconsin. As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 439. The City of Tomahawk is located to the northeast the town and is not contiguous with it. There is also the Town of Lake Tomahawk in Oneida County.

Geography

According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 185.4 km² (71.6 mi²). 181.5 km² (70.1 mi²) of it is land and 3.9 km² (1.5 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 2.10% water.

Demographics

As of the census2 of 2000, there are 439 people, 192 households, and 125 families residing in the town. The population density is 2.4/km² (6.3/mi²). There are 383 housing units at an average density of 2.1/km² (5.5/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 98.86% White, 0.00% Black or African American, 0.00% Native American, 0.23% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.00% from other races, and 0.91% from two or more races. 0.46% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 192 households out of which 22.4% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 56.8% are married couples living together, 5.2% have a female householder with no husband present, and 34.4% are non-families. 27.6% of all households are made up of individuals and 9.4% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.29 and the average family size is 2.79.

In the town the population is spread out with 20.0% under the age of 18, 6.6% from 18 to 24, 26.7% from 25 to 44, 32.6% from 45 to 64, and 14.1% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 44 years. For every 100 females there are 102.3 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 97.2 males.

The median income for a household in the town is $35,625, and the median income for a family is $41,964. Males have a median income of $37,500 versus $18,125 for females. The per capita income for the town is $16,681. 8.6% of the population and 6.7% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 0.0% of those under the age of 18 and 11.5% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
