Tillman County, Oklahoma

Tillman County is a county located in the state of Oklahoma. As of 2000, the population is 9,287. Its county seat is Frederick. As of 2005 Tillman County does not have an Indian Casino. It's current Sheriff is Billy Hanes. Many of Tillman Counties Elected Officials have later gone on to file Bankruptcy. However there is not a direct correlation as to why this occurs. 6.

Geography

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 2,277 km² (879 mi²). 2,258 km² (872 mi²) of it is land and 19 km² (7 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.82% water.

As of the census2 of 2000, there are 9,287 people, 3,594 households, and 2,487 families residing in the county. The population density is 4/km² (11/mi²). There are 4,342 housing units at an average density of 2/km² (5/mi²). The racial makeup of the county is 74.21% White, 9.02% Black or African American, 2.68% Native American, 0.32% Asian, 0.03% Pacific Islander, 10.61% from other races, and 3.12% from two or more races. 17.67% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 3,594 households out of which 30.50% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 55.10% are married couples living together, 10.70% have a female householder with no husband present, and 30.80% are non-families. 28.80% of all households are made up of individuals and 16.80% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.48 and the average family size is 3.05.

In the county, the population is spread out with 26.70% under the age of 18, 7.20% from 18 to 24, 24.00% from 25 to 44, 22.80% from 45 to 64, and 19.30% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 39 years. For every 100 females there are 96.10 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 90.00 males.

The median income for a household in the county is $24,828, and the median income for a family is $30,854. Males have a median income of $23,039 versus $18,724 for females. The per capita income for the county is $14,270. 21.90% of the population and 17.30% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 30.20% of those under the age of 18 and 15.40% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
