Tiffin is a city located in Seneca County, Ohio. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 18,135. It is the county seat of Seneca CountyTemplate:GR.

It is the home of Heidelberg College and Tiffin University. At one time it was noted as a glass and porcelain manufacturing center.

World War II Medal of Honor recipient Rodger Young was born here.

Tiffin is located at 41°7'1" North, 83°10'44" West (41.116834, -83.179003)Template:GR.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 17.2 km² (6.6 mi²). 16.8 km² (6.5 mi²) of it is land and 0.4 km² (0.1 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 2.11% water, primarily the Sandusky River which flows through the center of town.

Demographics

As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there are 18,135 people, 7,330 households, and 4,471 families residing in the city. The population density is 1,078.9/km² (2,792.4/mi²). There are 7,862 housing units at an average density of 467.7/km² (1,210.6/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 96.26% White, 1.46% African American, 0.17% Native American, 0.51% Asian, 0.02% Pacific Islander, 0.59% from other races, and 1.00% from two or more races. 2.10% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 7,330 households out of which 28.4% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 46.2% are married couples living together, 11.1% have a female householder with no husband present, and 39.0% are non-families. 32.6% of all households are made up of individuals and 14.0% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.31 and the average family size is 2.92.

In the city the population is spread out with 22.3% under the age of 18, 15.1% from 18 to 24, 25.9% from 25 to 44, 20.9% from 45 to 64, and 15.8% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 36 years. For every 100 females there are 95.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 92.6 males.

The median income for a household in the city is $33,261, and the median income for a family is $41,329. Males have a median income of $31,207 versus $22,259 for females. The per capita income for the city is $16,580. 11.1% of the population and 5.7% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 9.4% of those under the age of 18 and 8.9% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
