The Grim Grotto

The Grim Grotto is the eleventh book in A Series of Unfortunate Events, written by Lemony Snicket. In this book, the Baudelaire orphans board the submarine known as the Queequeg. The captain, who has a tendency to say "aye" a good deal, sends them and his stepdaughter Fiona off to find something very important... the sugar bowl. The significance of this bowl is unknown.
To retrieve the sugar bowl, the three orphans and Fiona must enter the Gorgonian Grotto. Unfortunately, this place is inhabited by a poisonous variety of fungus. It has a very brief cycle of growing, then withering. The Baudelaire orphans do not find the sugar bowl, but Violet discovers some information about the captain and his kin that suggests that they may be more dangerous than she thought. Apparently, their family has never been able to choose sides within the "schism" that tore V.F.D. apart.
