Terry Bogard (テリー・ボガード) is a video game character created by SNK, and is the main character of the Fatal Fury series. For a short time, he was also the mascot of SNK. He is often pictured either in his traditional outfit, or his Garou outfit, the former consisting of a red and white ball-cap, a red sleeveless jacket with a white star on the back, white shirt, blue jeans, and a pair of what appear to be Chuck Taylor All-Stars. The latter consists of a brown jacket with a white star on the back, as well as a white shirt and blue jeans. The front of his cap displays either the Fatal Fury logo (in the King of Fighters series) or the King of Fighters logo (in the Fatal Fury series). In the animated films, his cap has no logo, but is instead replaced by a large metal plate.

Terry Bogard is the brother of Andy Bogard, and is often referred to as the Legendary Hungry Wolf (from Garou Densetsu, meaning Legend of the Hungry Wolf). He has a pet monkey named Ukee (who was the previous mascot of SNK before Terry). His voice is provided by Satoshi Hashimoto in the various games he has appeared in.

Background

Terry Bogard's life evolves around two fighters in the Fatal Fury universe: Geese Howard and Rock Howard.

The Geese Howard Era

Terry Bogard hails from the fictitious town of South Town, USA (a setting for many SNK games), the son of Jeff Bogard. During childhood, he saw his father killed at the hands of Geese Howard. On the advice of mentor Tung Fu Rue, he chose to pursue his revenge at a later time. Unlike his brother, he chose to stay in South Town, learning the unique South Town style of street fighting, as well as the Hakkyokusaiken style taught to him from time to time.

Some time later, the crime lord Geese Howard organized a tournament, The King of Fighters, that would eventually see Geese ultimately defeated and thrown off the top of Geese Tower, a tall tower in South Town. For a while, it was thought that Geese was dead. The next year saw Geese's half-brother, Wolfgang Krauser, take control of The King of Fighters, which ended up with Terry being ultimately defeated by Krauser, only to win in a rematch.

When it was found out that Geese had survived the fall, Terry learned of Geese's intentions to retrieve the legendary Jin scrolls, Terry had to go and defeat him once again. In a rematch of what had happened the previous time Terry and Geese had battled, Terry knocked Geese off the edge of Geese Tower, but Terry held his hand and tried to keep Geese from falling. That was not to be as Geese let go of Terry, plummetting to his permanent death. Immediately after Geese took his own life away, Terry found a young boy named Rock Howard. To avoid history repeating itself, Terry took Rock and raised the child as his own, thus allowing himself to make amends for the next ten years.

The Rock Howard Era

Since then, several catalystic events happened. Southtown was destroyed in the year 2000 (during the King of Fighters 2000 Tournament) by NESTS Syndicate Agent Zero (The Clone Zero) via a sattelite weapon called "Zero Cannon." Second Southtown rose from the ashes from the original Southtown but even though Second South enjoyed a comeback, the tranquility of Second Southtown has been eclipsed by the next-generation Crime Lord, Kain R. Heinlein.

About 7-8 years after the tragic events in King of Fighters 2000, Maximum Mayhem (hosted and sponsored by Kain R. Heinlein) would go under way, and Terry and Rock were invited to take part of the tournament. Both Terry and Rock entered the tournament to settle their pasts once and for all.

Although Terry and Rock were to face off against each other in the finals, Grant (a.k.a. The Martyr of Might) approached the two by surprise. Terry told Rock that now would not be a good time to square off against each other since he had to fight Grant. Although Terry was victorious against Grant, he was too exhausted to proceed, forcing Rock to succeed Terry's place in the final minutes of Maximum Mayhem. As Grant started to pass away due to excessive might, Grant ordered Rock to go to Kain's mansion to learn more about his past. Terry became nothing but a spectator as Rock eventually made nasty work out of Kain R. Heinlein with a deadlier version of Geese's Deadly Rave.

Approaching the crumpled mansion, Terry finds out that Rock is now Kain's partner, and knows that he must trust Rock's decision to stick with Kain for a while. Terry then leaves the vicinity knowing that Rock has finally left his den. Terry eventually finds Kevin Rian's partner, Marky, a moment after losing Rock to Kain. Realizing his failure, Terry then lived the life of a lonely wolf once again. Time will only tell whether or not Terry will find another cub to raise.

Terry is known to have a street smart personality and leading an otherwise carefree life. His fighting skills are depicted as near-invincible, losing matches when either time runs out or he loses his cool. His trademark poses often involve throwing his hat or tossing his jacket.

To the right is Terry's trademark "Stand up!" winpose from Garou: Mark of the Wolves.
