I added 'the field of economics' since in my public finance book "Public Finance in Canada 2nd Edition, 2001" gives the definition of Public Finance as: Field of economics that studies government activities and the alternative means of financing government expenditures.
As well, the field of public finance was always core to economics. In fact economics used to be merged with political science to form the science of "Political Economy", which dealt with government and public finance.

Public bond
I changed government bond to "public" bond. Since it's "public" finance it has to be "public" bonds. - Jerryseinfeld 17:55, 18 Dec 2004 (UTC)
