Talk:Killington, Vermont

From Academic Kids

Raging PoV moved here for work toward NPoV. Note also personal EMail may not appear, and individual observation unsupported by public sources is essentially original research, and contrary to WP standards of encyclopedicity.

At issue is not only the fact that the towns people pay the state $10 million per year in property taxes, $10 million a year in sales taxes (as well as income and other taxes), but receive only $1 million a year to help fund their school system. In the words of Town Selectman Butch Findeisen, "There is a point where sharing turns to looting."
An economic study commissioned by the town determined the town would save a minimum of $7 million per year, excluding individual state income tax savings.
The town has also suffered long term problems with restrained development under the state's Act 250 environmental law, which set up a system of environmental courts in parallel to the regular judicial system, in which anyone can sue a property owner to prevent the owner from exercising their right to develop his or her property. The expense of dealing with this has resulted in Killington Ski Resort having the highest lift ticket prices in the country.
On March 2, 200-300 residents voted in a voice vote on the proposal for secession and approximately two-thirds of those voters voted "yes" to secession (NOTE: The 2/3 vote was reported by the media. mailto:mlorrey@yahoo.com This eyewitness put the 'aye' vote at 90%). The legislative decision will be made by the states of Vermont and New Hampshire, as well as the US Congress, though a no vote by Vermont's Legislature could trigger a legal battle going to the US Supreme Court.

Removed the following text(posted by User:69.173.98.149) from article. See above.

(Note: This eyewitness disputes the 2/3 vote claim, it was more like 90% in favor on a voice vote. BTW: I was the guy presenting the NH state flag to the town manager after the vote.) -

Exclusion of this text is itself POV and evidence of political suppression of an ongoing political dispute. Absolutely all the facts you removed above are non-biased, real, and only someone interested in political repression would exclude them. Mlorrey 17:02, 10 Mar 2005 (UTC)
