Hmmm... at school in Geography (Australia, 1960s), we used this phrase in a rather different sense. We contrasted intensive farming in areas like the Nile and Hwang-Ho or Yellow River valleys with extensive farming as practiced in Iowa in the USA and the grainfields of Canada. that's embarassing. Well, just add it to the article. But mentionned that meaning was used back in the 60ies. Do you think the meaning would still be different in Australia ? User:anthere
