History of School

Star of the Sea College was founded by the Presentation Sisters in March, 1883. The sisters were asked to come to Australia from Ireland by Father James Corbett and after establishing the first Presentation Convent and school in Victoria at Windsor (now Presentation College Windsor), they moved to Gardenvale (then known as Elsternwick). With the help of other Presentation Sisters from Wagga Wagga they established Star of the Sea College.

The foundresses, Mother John Byrne and Mother Paul Fay, named the school after Our Lady, 'Star of the Sea' when they moved into a house called Turret Lodge which had a clear view of a local bay.

Parents' Association

Overview

The Parents' Association allows parents to be involved in the schooling of their children. The association's primary objective is stated on their page:

Our primary objectives are to provide opportunities for social contact between parents and to raise funds for equipment and activities that are not covered by school fees. [5] (http://www.star.melb.catholic.edu.au/associations.htm)

The Parents' Association operates a Uniform Shop, a Second Hand Book Sale and trivia nights to do fundraising for the school. They also run a newsletter [6] (http://www.star.melb.catholic.edu.au/newsletter.htm) which they send to parents.
