Stannards, New York

Stannards is a hamlet (and census-designated place) located in the Town of Willing in Allegany County, New York. As of the 2000 census, the community had a total population of 868.

Stannards is located on the town line in the northeast corner of the town and is partly inside the Town of Wellsville.

Geography

Stannards is located at 42°5'0" North, 77°55'21" West (42.083345, -77.922434)Template:GR.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 7.4 km² (2.8 mi²). 7.4 km² (2.8 mi²) of it is land and none of the area is covered with water.

The Genesee River flows northward through the town. North of the hamlet, the Chenunda Creek joins the river.

The village is located on Routes 19, major north-south trunk road, and 248, a major east-west trunk road.

Demographics

As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there are 868 people, 375 households, and 260 families residing in the community. The population density is 118.0/km² (305.1/mi²). There are 436 housing units at an average density of 59.3/km² (153.3/mi²). The racial makeup of the CDP is 98.50% White, 0.00% African American, 0.35% Native American, 0.35% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.23% from other races, and 0.58% from two or more races. 0.46% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 375 households out of which 27.5% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 51.7% are married couples living together, 11.7% have a female householder with no husband present, and 30.4% are non-families. 26.7% of all households are made up of individuals and 12.0% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.31 and the average family size is 2.72.

In the hamlet the population is spread out with 23.2% under the age of 18, 8.4% from 18 to 24, 22.2% from 25 to 44, 29.4% from 45 to 64, and 16.8% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 42 years. For every 100 females there are 100.0 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 97.9 males.

The median income for a household in the village is $37,344, and the median income for a family is $46,136. Males have a median income of $41,000 versus $20,865 for females. The per capita income for the area is $18,575. 10.7% of the population and 5.4% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 9.2% of those under the age of 18 and 4.3% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
