South Lebanon, Ohio

South Lebanon is a village located in the central part of Warren County, Ohio in southwestern Ohio in Union and Hamilton Townships. As of the 2000 census, the village had a total population of 2,538, down from 2,696 in 1990. The village was originally called Deerfield because it was the chief settlement of Deerfield Township, Hamilton County, Ohio, but renamed because of its proximity to the county seat of Lebanon.

South Lebanon is located at 39°22'14" North, 84°12'58" West (39.370581, -84.216084)Template:GR.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 4.4 km² (1.7 mi²). 4.3 km² (1.7 mi²) of it is land and 0.1 km² (0.04 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 1.76% water.

Demographics

As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there are 2,538 people, 996 households, and 693 families residing in the village. The population density is 586.8/km² (1,521.2/mi²). There are 1,069 housing units at an average density of 247.2/km² (640.7/mi²). The racial makeup of the village is 98.58% White, 0.04% African American, 0.20% Native American, 0.20% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.32% from other races, and 0.67% from two or more races. 1.10% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 996 households out of which 34.4% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 49.7% are married couples living together, 14.1% have a female householder with no husband present, and 30.4% are non-families. 26.1% of all households are made up of individuals and 9.5% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.55 and the average family size is 3.07.

In the village the population is spread out with 27.4% under the age of 18, 9.5% from 18 to 24, 31.6% from 25 to 44, 20.4% from 45 to 64, and 11.0% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 34 years. For every 100 females there are 97.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 94.8 males.

The median income for a household in the village is $35,676, and the median income for a family is $40,798. Males have a median income of $30,722 versus $25,417 for females. The per capita income for the village is $16,779. 12.7% of the population and 11.5% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 14.3% of those under the age of 18 and 10.4% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.

Most of the village is in the Kings Local School District, but parts are in the Little Miami Local and Lebanon City School Districts. It is entirely in the South Lebanon telephone exchange.

The village has been dry for decades.
