Sky Harbor International Airport

Sky Harbor International Airport Template:Airport codes in Phoenix is Arizona's main international airport, one of the largest aviation facilities in the American Southwest and one of the top ten busiest airports in the country.

Sky Harbor has been operating for decades, and in the 1950's it was serviced by four airline companies. Today, it serves as a hub for America West Airlines as well as one of the largest departure points for Dallas based Southwest Airlines and is trying to become another international airport in the Southwest region. In that department, it is trying to follow in the footsteps of Los Angeles International Airport, Dallas-Ft. Worth International Airport, George Bush Intercontinental Airport and San Francisco International Airport.

Sky Harbor's private airplane area also serves as one of eight service centers that Medevac airline Air Evac has.

Sky Harbor has not seen any major tragedies happen at the airport. On August 16, 1987, Northwest Airlines Flight 255, which was flying from Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport near Detroit, Michigan to John Wayne Airport in Santa Ana, California, with an intermediate stop at Sky Harbor Airport, crashed after takeoff in Detroit, killing all of the passengers except for a young girl.

Sky Harbor International Airport has three terminals, which are somewhat confusingly numbered 2, 3 and 4. Terminal 1 was torn down in 1990.
