Skokie Swift

Template:CTA Skokie Swift is a Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) line running from the Howard Street terminal on the northern city limits of Chicago to Skokie station at Dempster Street in Skokie. Howard and Skokie are its only stops, though the possibilities of adding a stop at Oakton Street in downtown Skokie and extending the line to Old Orchard Mall in Skokie have been discussed. At one time the line had several intervening stops in Evanston and Skokie -- including one at Oakton -- but these stations have long been out of use and have been dismantled.
At Howard Street, Skokie Swift passengers can transfer to the Purple or Red Lines of the CTA. Skokie Swift is the only CTA line that does not go to Chicago's Loop. It is also unique in that it runs in a below-grade trench for part of its length, although it has no subway component and does not run in an expressway median.
Since the CTA lines were renamed, Skokie Swift is most often referred to as the Yellow Line.
Travel time along the Skokie Swift is eight minutes. Trains typically have two cars.
