Shiloh, York County, Pennsylvania

Shiloh is an unincorporated community and census-designated place (CDP) in West Manchester Township, York County in the U.S. state of Pennsylvania. The CDP area is defined for statistical purposes and does not have any legal status as an incorporated municipality. As of the 2000 census, the CDP had a total population of 10,192.

Geography

Shiloh is located at 39°58'22" North, 76°47'44" West (39.972697, -76.795594)1.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 10.9 km² (4.2 mi²). 10.9 km² (4.2 mi²) of it is land and none of the area is covered with water.

Demographics

As of the census of 2000, there are 10,192 people, 4,143 households, and 2,796 families residing in the CDP. The population density is 934.7/km² (2,422.6/mi²). There are 4,262 housing units at an average density of 390.9/km² (1,013.0/mi²). The racial makeup of the CDP is 95.39% White, 1.71% African American, 0.08% Native American, 1.48% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.30% from other races, and 1.04% from two or more races. 1.06% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 4,143 households out of which 27.7% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 58.0% are married couples living together, 6.9% have a female householder with no husband present, and 32.5% are non-families. 27.3% of all households are made up of individuals and 14.3% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.34 and the average family size is 2.86.

In the CDP the population is spread out with 20.7% under the age of 18, 5.6% from 18 to 24, 26.8% from 25 to 44, 25.1% from 45 to 64, and 21.8% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 43 years. For every 100 females there are 87.5 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 83.0 males.

The median income for a household in the CDP is $49,023, and the median income for a family is $55,918. Males have a median income of $41,444 versus $25,164 for females. The per capita income for the CDP is $23,625. 4.6% of the population and 2.7% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 3.1% are under the age of 18 and 6.8% are 65 or older.
