Sheffield is a city located in Colbert County, Alabama. As of the 2000 census, the population of the city is 9,652.

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 17.1 km² (6.6 mi²). 17.0 km² (6.6 mi²) of it is land and 0.1 km² (0.04 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.46% water.

The racial makeup of the city is 71.21% White, 26.21% Black or African American, 0.39% Native American, 0.28% Asian, 0.04% Pacific Islander, 0.57% from other races, and 1.30% from two or more races. 1.50% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
