Sandusky South is an unincorporated census-designated place located in Erie County, Ohio. As of the 2000 census, the community had a total population of 6,599.
The area is part of the political subdivision of Perkins Township, Ohio, and is generally referred to as "Perkins" by local residents.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the community has a total area of 11.1 km² (4.3 mi²). 11.1 km² (4.3 mi²) of it is land and 0.1 km² (0.04 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.47% water.
Demographics
As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there are 6,599 people, 2,224 households, and 1,643 families residing in the community. The population density is 596.7/km² (1,546.9/mi²). There are 2,341 housing units at an average density of 211.7/km² (548.8/mi²). The racial makeup of the community is 88.07% White, 9.49% African American, 0.20% Native American, 0.62% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.20% from other races, and 1.42% from two or more races. 1.15% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 2,224 households out of which 32.2% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 60.8% are married couples living together, 9.7% have a female householder with no husband present, and 26.1% are non-families. 23.5% of all households are made up of individuals and 12.0% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.56 and the average family size is 3.02.
In the community the population is spread out with 22.2% under the age of 18, 5.5% from 18 to 24, 22.6% from 25 to 44, 24.4% from 45 to 64, and 25.2% who are 65 years of age or older.
