Sakura Kasugano

Sakura Kasugano is a video game character in the Street Fighter series of fighting games. She's a 16-year-old (as of Street Fighter Alpha 3) Japanese schoolgirl who has an intense fascination with Ryu. She's managed to copy and learn some Ansatsuken, which Ryu uses, but really wants him to train her personally. He turned down her offer, however, stating that he is still a student himself. Don't expect that to stop Sakura, though.

At the end of Street Fighter Alpha 2, Ryu has agreed to let Sakura snap a photo of him with her camera. She looked over the photo and thought hard about Ryu's words that he was still training. Sakura now made it her mission to find Ryu and ask him to train her.

She is one of a few characters that also attend a school, and wear a school uniform as one of their outfits in battle.

Sakura typically fights in her school's uniform, a short-skirted sailor fuku (which is similar to Minako Aino's), with a pair of red bloomers underneath. She wears a red top under her uniform, sparring gloves, and a white headband. Her red shoes bear a strong resemblance to Converse Chuck Taylors.

While Sakura's moves are very unpolished, she has a lot of potential. She learned many of Ryu's moves, including the Hadoken, simply from watching him do it. She isn't in much danger of submitting to the Satsui No Hadou, although in the Marvel vs. Capcom series she had the ability to perform moves associated with the Satsui no Hadou after being sunburned. Interestingly, many of Sakura's moves negate the effects of various "fighting game armors" (that is, a character will go into hit stun by Sakura's attacks even if they were supposed to be immune to going into hit stun).

Sakura lives in Tokyo, Setagaya ward, where she attends Tamagawa Minami High School, along with her best friend Kei Chitose and her self proclaimed rival, the spoiled rich girl Karin Kanzuki. She rescued Kei from being assaulted by three college bullies by knocking them out completely. The battered punks ran away while Kei was upset of Sakura's fascination of street fighting. Kei wishes that Sakura had chosen a better and safer hobby.

Sakura is also friends with Taiyo High School student Hinata Wakaba (who oddly idolizes her) and Gorin High School student Natsu Ayuhara from the Rival Schools series, both of whom are Sakura's childhood friends. She has also met Dan Hibiki, and trained for a short time under him.
