Sachse, Texas

Sachse is a city located in Dallas County, Texas. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 9,751, but a July 1, 2002 Census estimate showed this city's population rising to 13,015. Northeast of Dallas, Sachse is three miles north of State Highway 190. It is home to Woodbridge Golf Course.

Sachse was founded by William Sachse, a Prussian, immigrant, in 1845. Purchasing 640 acres from Collin County, he erected the first cotton mills and gins in the county. There is currently a major historical revivalist movement, intending to restore several old buildings as well as create a local history museum.

Geography

Sachse is located at 32°58'35" North, 96°35'10" West (32.976433, -96.586138)Template:GR.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 25.6 km² (9.9 mi²). 25.2 km² (9.7 mi²) of it is land and 0.4 km² (0.2 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 1.62% water.

Demographics

As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there are 9,751 people, 3,224 households, and 2,746 families residing in the city. The population density is 386.9/km² (1,001.8/mi²). There are 3,350 housing units at an average density of 132.9/km² (344.2/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 87.34% White, 4.63% African American, 0.65% Native American, 2.15% Asian, 0.01% Pacific Islander, 3.37% from other races, and 1.85% from two or more races. 8.21% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 3,224 households out of which 51.5% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 75.3% are married couples living together, 7.1% have a female householder with no husband present, and 14.8% are non-families. 11.2% of all households are made up of individuals and 2.2% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 3.02 and the average family size is 3.28.

In the city the population is spread out with 32.7% under the age of 18, 6.1% from 18 to 24, 39.3% from 25 to 44, 17.9% from 45 to 64, and 4.0% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 32 years. For every 100 females there are 99.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 97.5 males.

The median income for a household in the city is $70,333, and the median income for a family is $71,918. Males have a median income of $50,582 versus $35,174 for females. The per capita income for the city is $25,530. 4.6% of the population and 3.4% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 4.5% of those under the age of 18 and 11.1% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
