Rod Smart (January 9, 1977, Lakeland, Florida) is an American football player who played for the Super Bowl XXXVIII runner-up Carolina Panthers as a kick return man/running back. He is most widely known for his XFL debut jersey name "He hate me". Smart formerly played for the Philadelphia Eagles.

Career
Rod attended college at Western Kentucky University where he rushed for 1249 yards with 10 touchdowns in his senior season.
Rod was drafted by the NFL but could not stick with a team. When the XFL formed in 2001, Rod signed with the Las Vegas Outlaws. He was known more for his colorful jersey nickname than his playing skill, but he did manage to finish second in the league in rushing with 555 yards.
He next went to the CFL in the fall of 2001 with the Edmonton Eskimos, but got injured and cut after a short stay.
The Philadelphia Eagles signed him before their 2001 season ended and he played mainly on special teams. They cut him after the season ended.
In 2002, he was signed by the Carolina Panthers. He played mainly special teams with an occasional carry during a game but has excelled on special teams, even scoring a touchdown on a kick return and gaining 947 yards on returns in 2003. His touchdown was a 100-yard return against the New Orleans Saints and is tied for the longest in team history. His 2004 season was cut short due to injuries.
He is healthy again and should be a strong special teamer in 2005.
Miscellaneous
Rod is a huge fan of the band Earth, Wind and Fire. Rod was the "class clown" at Lakeland High School in Florida.
