River Rouge is a city located in Wayne County, Michigan. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 9,917.
Geography
According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 8.8 km² (3.4 mi²). 6.9 km² (2.7 mi²) of it is land and 1.9 km² (0.7 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 21.70% water.
Demographics
As of the census2 of 2000, there are 9,917 people, 3,640 households, and 2,504 families residing in the city. The population density is 1,434.1/km² (3,713.9/mi²). There are 4,080 housing units at an average density of 590.0/km² (1,528.0/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 52.58% White, 42.01% African American, 0.78% Native American, 0.16% Asian, 0.04% Pacific Islander, 1.63% from other races, and 2.80% from two or more races. 4.96% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
