Reedley is a city located in Fresno County, California. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 20,756.

Reedley is located at 36°35'49" North, 119°26'55" West (36.596950, -119.448702)Template:GR.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 11.6 km² (4.5 mi²). 11.4 km² (4.4 mi²) of it is land and 0.2 km² (0.1 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 1.56% water.

Demographics

As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there are 20,756 people, 5,761 households, and 4,643 families residing in the city. The population density is 1,813.1/km² (4,700.1/mi²). There are 5,972 housing units at an average density of 521.7/km² (1,352.3/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 51.76% White, 0.43% Black or African American, 1.21% Native American, 4.37% Asian, 0.07% Pacific Islander, 37.72% from other races, and 4.44% from two or more races. 67.59% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 5,761 households out of which 46.8% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 61.5% are married couples living together, 12.9% have a female householder with no husband present, and 19.4% are non-families. 15.8% of all households are made up of individuals and 8.5% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 3.53 and the average family size is 3.87.

In the city the population is spread out with 32.1% under the age of 18, 12.2% from 18 to 24, 29.1% from 25 to 44, 15.2% from 45 to 64, and 11.3% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 29 years. For every 100 females there are 105.8 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 104.6 males.

The median income for a household in the city is $34,682, and the median income for a family is $37,027. Males have a median income of $30,048 versus $25,495 for females. The per capita income for the city is $12,096. 23.8% of the population and 18.5% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 31.6% of those under the age of 18 and 10.4% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.

Insert non-formatted text hereBold textItalic textBold text== External links == There is a story in Reedley heard by locals at sometime or another.This story has been passed on and repeated again and again with each new generation of Reedley residents.It is said that during the Great Depression, Reedley's Chinatown located on I street today.There was underground rooms and connected by tunneled pathways that spanned 3 to 4 blocks.These underground passages are said to have housed Opium Dens,Brothels,and Alcohol.It is also claimed that the before mentioned tunnels are still intact thou no longer in use and entrance to them can be made only byway of 2 or 3 of the buildings directly above.One of the buildings still in use being the New China Restaraunt.This story was told to me as fact not fiction.He was born in 1928 and grew up in Dinuba neighboring town to Reedley.Being a teenager at the time.He had heared rumors about the underground establishments and was going on inside.This prompted him and some friends to investigate hoping to possibly buy beer.Having gained entrance they inquire about alcohol and where promptly kicked out.I am 28 and have yet to meet anyone of my generation who has been inside and only one person who has seen the entrance at New China. -L.L.G ūReedley.com (http://www.reedley.com) Official City of Reedley Homepage
