Red Level is a town located in Covington County, Alabama. As of the 2000 census, the population of the town is 556.

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 4.9 km² (1.9 mi²). 4.9 km² (1.9 mi²) of it is land and none of it is covered by water.

Demographics

As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there are 556 people, 213 households, and 151 families residing in the town. The population density is 114.2/km² (296.1/mi²). There are 248 housing units at an average density of 50.9/km² (132.1/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 88.67% White, 10.07% Black or African American, 0.18% Native American, 0.00% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.54% from other races, and 0.54% from two or more races. 0.00% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 213 households out of which 33.8% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 54.5% are married couples living together, 11.7% have a female householder with no husband present, and 29.1% are non-families. 28.2% of all households are made up of individuals and 15.5% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.55 and the average family size is 3.09.

In the town the population is spread out with 26.4% under the age of 18, 7.9% from 18 to 24, 26.3% from 25 to 44, 22.3% from 45 to 64, and 17.1% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 36 years. For every 100 females there are 102.9 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 101.5 males.

The median income for a household in the town is $25,956, and the median income for a family is $36,250. Males have a median income of $25,833 versus $18,750 for females. The per capita income for the town is $14,491. 16.5% of the population and 11.0% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 22.3% of those under the age of 18 and 20.0% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
