The Atlantis team discover a race of humans that have advanced to a technological level similar to that of earth in the middle of the 20th century. Their knowledege is stored in several hidden libaries to prevent total destruction with each Wraith culling. They have been working on a innoculation which will prevent the wraith from feeding on them. Dr. Carson Beckett helps them to complete the drug ahead of schedule. To the reluctance of Dr. Elizabeth Weir, they are eager to test the drug on a dying person with the wraith (Steve) that has been held on Atlantis. The test is successful. Widespread innoculation of the drug is started, regardless of the objection of Dr. Rodney McKay and John Sheppard about the long term side effects of the drug.Many of those innoculated start dying and it is discovered that those who took it have a 50 percent of dying in short period of time. The people of the planet take a vote on whether they want to continue with the innoculations and the vote goes to take the drug by 94%. Powerless to stop what they've started, the Atlantis team leaves.
