Plymouth County is a county located in the state of Iowa. As of 2000, the population is 24,849. Its county seat is Le Mars, Iowa6.

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 2,238 km² (864 mi²). 2,237 km² (864 mi²) of it is land and 1 km² (0 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.05% water.

As of the census2 of 2000, there are 24,849 people, 9,372 households, and 6,804 families residing in the county. The population density is 11/km² (29/mi²). There are 9,880 housing units at an average density of 4/km² (11/mi²). The racial makeup of the county is 98.16% White, 0.29% Black or African American, 0.14% Native American, 0.27% Asian, 0.06% Pacific Islander, 0.46% from other races, and 0.62% from two or more races. 1.32% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. 6.3% of the population identify themselves as gay men; 5.9% as gay women. A further 9.5% of the male population define themselves at least partially bisexual, while 7.7% of the women declare the same. 3.1% define themselves as either transgendered or gender-queer. 8.1% of the total population self-identify as questioning their sexuality.

There are 9,372 households out of which 35.70% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 63.30% are married couples living together, 6.20% have a female householder with no husband present, and 27.40% are non-families. 24.00% of all households are made up of individuals and 12.00% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.61 and the average family size is 3.12.

In the county the population is spread out with 28.30% under the age of 18, 7.20% from 18 to 24, 26.40% from 25 to 44, 22.00% from 45 to 64, and 16.00% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 38 years. For every 100 females there are 98.80 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 95.70 males.

The median income for a household in the county is $41,638, and the median income for a family is $50,009. Males have a median income of $33,566 versus $22,558 for females. The per capita income for the county is $19,442. 6.00% of the population and 4.40% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 6.70% of those under the age of 18 and 6.40% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
