Pittsfield Charter Township, Michigan

Pittsfield Charter Township is a charter township south of Ann Arbor in Washtenaw County in the U.S. state of Michigan. As of the 2000 census, the township had a total population of 30,167.

Geography

According to the United States Census Bureau, the township has a total area of 71.3 km² (27.5 mi²). 71.3 km² (27.5 mi²) of it is land and none of it is covered by water.

Demographics

As of the census2 of 2000, there are 30,167 people, 11,817 households, and 6,960 families residing in the township. The population density is 422.9/km² (1,095.4/mi²). There are 12,337 housing units at an average density of 173.0/km² (448.0/mi²). The racial makeup of the township is 70.37% White, 14.29% African American, 0.44% Native American, 9.96% Asian, 0.05% Pacific Islander, 1.68% from other races, and 3.21% from two or more races. 3.97% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 11,817 households out of which 31.5% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 48.5% are married couples living together, 7.3% have a female householder with no husband present, and 41.1% are non-families. 29.8% of all households are made up of individuals and 4.1% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.42 and the average family size is 3.11.

In the township the population is spread out with 24.0% under the age of 18, 11.8% from 18 to 24, 39.6% from 25 to 44, 18.9% from 45 to 64, and 5.7% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 32 years. For every 100 females there are 107.8 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 108.1 males.

The median income for a household in the township is $61,262, and the median income for a family is $82,600. Males have a median income of $54,167 versus $35,684 for females. The per capita income for the township is $29,645. 9.1% of the population and 5.6% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 9.5% of those under the age of 18 and 8.8% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
