Perrysburg (village), New York

Perrysburg is a village located in Cattaraugus County, New York. As of the 2000 census, the village had a total population of 408. It is named after Commodore Oliver Perry.

The Village of Perrysburg was incorporated in 1916 and is in the south-central part of the Town of Perrysburg. The village is west of Gowanda, New York on Route 39 at the junction of Route 58.

Both the village and the town have been spelled "Perrysburgh" in the past.

Geography

Perrysburg is located at 42°27'28" North, 79°0'3" West (42.457801, -79.000855)Template:GR.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 2.6 km² (1.0 mi²). None of the area is covered with water.

Demographics

As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there are 408 people, 146 households, and 96 families residing in the village. The population density is 159.1/km² (413.5/mi²). There are 162 housing units at an average density of 63.2/km² (164.2/mi²). The racial makeup of the village is 93.87% White, 0.98% Black or African American, 3.68% Native American, 0.00% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.74% from other races, and 0.74% from two or more races. 0.98% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 146 households out of which 31.5% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 46.6% are married couples living together, 14.4% have a female householder with no husband present, and 34.2% are non-families. 30.8% of all households are made up of individuals and 15.1% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.34 and the average family size is 2.88.

In the village the population is spread out with 20.3% under the age of 18, 7.1% from 18 to 24, 29.2% from 25 to 44, 29.4% from 45 to 64, and 14.0% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 42 years. For every 100 females there are 96.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 93.5 males.

The median income for a household in the village is $37,045, and the median income for a family is $43,125. Males have a median income of $36,406 versus $24,219 for females. The per capita income for the village is $17,190. 24.0% of the population and 7.9% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 26.5% of those under the age of 18 and 42.9% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
