Peach Lake, New York

Peach Lake is a census-designated place (CDP) located mostly in the Town of Southeast in Putnam County, New York; a portion of the CDP is in the Town of North Salem in Westchester County, New York. As of the 2000 census, it had a total population of 1,671.

The name of the census region is derived from a lake called Peach Lake, and the hamlet at its north end in Putnam County. The lake itself is in both counties.

History

The Ryder family, who have for generations controlled the Putnam County National Bank, have farmed land in Peach Lake since the 18th century.

Geography

Peach Lake is located at 41°21'49" North, 73°34'28" West (41.363521, -73.574454)Template:GR.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 7.9 km² (3.1 mi²). 7.0 km² (2.7 mi²) of it is land and 0.9 km² (0.4 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 11.76% water.

Demographics

As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there are 1,671 people, 617 households, and 468 families residing in the CDP. The population density is 239.0/km² (619.2/mi²). There are 743 housing units at an average density of 106.2/km² (275.3/mi²). The racial makeup of the CDP is 97.19% White, 0.54% African American, 0.12% Native American, 0.78% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.42% from other races, and 0.96% from two or more races. 2.63% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 617 households out of which 37.4% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 64.0% are married couples living together, 9.4% have a female householder with no husband present, and 24.1% are non-families. 20.7% of all households are made up of individuals and 7.1% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.71 and the average family size is 3.16.

In the CDP the population is spread out with 27.6% under the age of 18, 4.5% from 18 to 24, 27.8% from 25 to 44, 26.6% from 45 to 64, and 13.5% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 40 years. For every 100 females there are 100.4 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 94.8 males.

The median income for a household in the CDP is $72,222, and the median income for a family is $82,222. Males have a median income of $55,529 versus $39,479 for females. The per capita income for the CDP is $33,340. 0.0% of the population and 0.0% of families are below the poverty line.
