Ovid is a village located in Seneca County, New York. As of the 2000 census, the village had a total population of 612.

History

The village was incorporated in 1816, but dissolved in 1849, and then re-incorporated in 1852.

Geography

Ovid is located at 42°40'39" North, 76°49'27" West (42.677513, -76.824311)Template:GR.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 1.1 km² (0.4 mi²). None of the area is covered with water.

Demographics

As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there are 612 people, 245 households, and 149 families residing in the village. The population density is 562.6/km² (1,460.9/mi²). There are 280 housing units at an average density of 257.4/km² (668.4/mi²). The racial makeup of the village is 93.79% White, 0.98% Black or African American, 0.65% Native American, 0.33% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 2.29% from other races, and 1.96% from two or more races. 3.59% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 245 households out of which 33.1% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 41.2% are married couples living together, 13.9% have a female householder with no husband present, and 38.8% are non-families. 33.1% of all households are made up of individuals and 18.0% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.50 and the average family size is 3.25.

In the village the population is spread out with 30.7% under the age of 18, 7.2% from 18 to 24, 27.3% from 25 to 44, 19.8% from 45 to 64, and 15.0% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 35 years. For every 100 females there are 87.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 79.7 males.

The median income for a household in the village is $30,227, and the median income for a family is $35,625. Males have a median income of $28,750 versus $23,750 for females. The per capita income for the village is $15,666. 12.4% of the population and 9.9% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 14.5% of those under the age of 18 and 4.3% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
