One-Eyed Jacks

One-Eyed Jacks, a western movie released in 1961, is the only film directed by Marlon Brando, who replaced the original director, Stanley Kubrick.
It also starred Brando as the lead character, Rio. Other notable actors in the work include Karl Malden as Dad Longworth, Slim Pickens and Katy Jurado.
In the film, Dad and Rio start out by robbing a bank. All goes well until a group of federales catch up to them. After Rio's horse is killed, Dad goes to get Rio another horse, but flees with the gold. Because of this, Rio gets arrested and spends five years in a Mexican prison. The story is about Rio seeking revenge against Dad, who after those five years is now a credible sheriff.
The script was originally adapted by Rod Serling from the Charles Neider novel of the same name. Serling was replaced by a string of screenwriters, including Sam Peckinpah and Calder Willingham before Guy Trosper finished the final script.
The film was Paramount Pictures' last feature released in VistaVision.
Cinematographer Charles Lang received an Academy Award nomination in the Best Cinematography, Color category that year.
The title refers to the jacks in a deck of playing cards who are only showing one eye: the Jack of Hearts and the Jack of Spades.
