According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 14.1 km² (5.4 mi²). 12.0 km² (4.6 mi²) of it is land and 2.1 km² (0.8 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 14.89% water.
Demographics
As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there are 4,072 people, 1,697 households, and 1,126 families residing in the CDP. The population density is 339.6/km² (879.1/mi²). There are 1,870 housing units at an average density of 155.9/km² (403.7/mi²). The racial makeup of the CDP is 97.86% White, 0.81% African American, 0.42% Native American, 0.20% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.15% from other races, and 0.56% from two or more races. 0.81% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 1,697 households out of which 28.8% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 52.3% are married couples living together, 10.3% have a female householder with no husband present, and 33.6% are non-families. 25.9% of all households are made up of individuals and 4.9% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.32 and the average family size is 2.79.
