Platform

(From the Nova Scotia Party website)

Health: "Restore funding to Medicare. Reduce waiting lists. Hire more nurses, doctors and train and hire more technicians."

Education: "Reduce illiteracy. Set up uniform testing and lower class size. Free post secondary tuition (with conditions)."

Auto Insurance: "Force reform on all parties involved, including lawyers. Encourage competition within the industry."

Seniors: "No charge for drugs or medical care for seniors in care. Conduct a Royal Commission inquiry into nursing homes, senior care and homecare."

Open Government: "Make everything government does an open record."

Jobs and Economic growth: "Create a pro-growth atmosphere; free enterprise not Darwinian Capitalism. Complete and detailed investigation and, if necessary, total replacement of the workers compensation system."

Poverty Issues: "Better treatment of citizens on welfare; especially children. A complete revision of allowance rates and treatment for disabled people. Raise minimum wage to $8.00/hour with benefits. Urge Ottawa to re-introduce some of the social housing programs of the 1970's, which provided affordable homes for lower income people."

Environmental Issues: "Tread lightly on our environment. Because everything in life is connected, we will make sure that we do as little harm as possible while providing quality jobs to Nova Scotians."

Natural Resources: "Stop the giveaway of our oil, gas and minerals. Our "free to take away" policy must end. We will promote value-added industry."

Parental Rights: "Create a commission to revise all family law legislation, and practice to restore and maintain fairness to all parties involved. There have been no major revisions here since the 1970's."

Gun Registry: "Opt out of the Ottawa Registry because of all its flaws and high cost. There are several proposals that would cost considerably less and would be less intrusive and more effective."

HST, Income Tax and Transfers: "Re-negotiate a better (lower) tax system with Ottawa."

Philosophy of the Role of Government: "We would establish guidelines for the conduct of provincial business on a basis similar to the 16 pillars of democratic government."

Tax Reduction and Balanced Budgets: "Tax reductions with increased debt is not good policy. We will reduce taxes in many areas without adding to the debt because we will create more jobs and economic activity within the province to pay for our social programs."
