As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there are 11,847 people, 4,817 households, and 2,991 families residing in the CDP. The population density is 599.5/km² (1,553.2/mi²). There are 4,982 housing units at an average density of 252.1/km² (653.2/mi²). The racial makeup of the CDP is 89.74% White, 0.71% African American, 1.17% Native American, 1.79% Asian, 0.09% Pacific Islander, 3.73% from other races, and 2.76% from two or more races. 9.21% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 4,817 households out of which 28.0% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 45.3% are married couples living together, 12.7% have a female householder with no husband present, and 37.9% are non-families. 31.7% of all households are made up of individuals and 17.9% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.32 and the average family size is 2.90.
