Mount Healthy, Ohio

Mount Healthy is a city located in Hamilton County, Ohio. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 7,149.

The city is a small town, just over one square mile, north of Cincinnati, Ohio in Ohio. The main commercial streets are Hamilton Ave. and Compton Rd. It contains four public parks, many schools, a public pool, library, and post office. It also has a good museum and a wildlife preserve. Main residential streets are Park, Harrison, Adams, and St. Clair.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 3.7 km² (1.4 mi²). 3.7 km² (1.4 mi²) of it is land and none of the area is covered with water.

Demographics

As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there are 7,149 people, 3,222 households, and 1,772 families residing in the city. The population density is 1,943.8/km² (5,022.2/mi²). There are 3,421 housing units at an average density of 930.2/km² (2,403.2/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 73.70% White, 23.32% African American, 0.20% Native American, 0.49% Asian, 0.06% Pacific Islander, 0.60% from other races, and 1.64% from two or more races. 1.02% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 3,222 households out of which 28.2% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 36.3% are married couples living together, 15.3% have a female householder with no husband present, and 45.0% are non-families. 40.5% of all households are made up of individuals and 18.1% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.16 and the average family size is 2.93.

In the city the population is spread out with 24.0% under the age of 18, 8.4% from 18 to 24, 30.4% from 25 to 44, 17.9% from 45 to 64, and 19.3% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 37 years. For every 100 females there are 77.1 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 71.4 males.

The median income for a household in the city is $32,982, and the median income for a family is $41,753. Males have a median income of $31,783 versus $26,926 for females. The per capita income for the city is $18,662. 8.9% of the population and 6.8% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 13.4% of those under the age of 18 and 11.4% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
