Movses of Chorene (V century AD) is the most significant Armenian medieval historian of the V century, one of the outstanding representatives of the world historiography, the author of "The History of Armenia". Movses of Chorene is considered as the "father of the Armenian history". His "History of Armenia" covers period from the times of the formation of Armenian people to the time of his life - the V century AD. The book contains the richest and unique material on the ancient-Armenian mythology, the heathen religion, the internal life of the country and its relations with the world. It contains numerous data on history and culture of the contiguous countries. The critical attitude of the author toward other sources is manifested in the book; it is characterized by exceptional literary merits - harmony of structure, brightness of the description of the people and events, picturesqueness and laconicism of language. The book had an enormous effect on Armenian historiography.
