Michael R. Turner (born January 11, 1960) is a Republican member of the U.S. House of Representatives from Ohio, representing that state's third congressional district (map (http://nationalatlas.gov/printable/images/preview/congdist/oh03_109.gif)), based in Dayton.
Turner, a protestant Christian, was born in Dayton and received a bachelor of arts degree from Ohio Northern University (Ada, Ohio) in 1982, a law degree from Case Western Reserve University (Cleveland, Ohio) in 1985, and a master's degree in business administration from the University of Dayton (Dayton, Ohio) in 1992.
Turner was a lawyer in private practice before he was elected mayor of Dayton, a position he served from 1994 to 2002. After losing in a reelection bid to Democrat Rhine McLin, Turner ran for Congress. The third district seat was open because of the resignation of U.S. Rep. Tony P. Hall (D-Ohio). Turner was elected in 2002--defeating Hall's last-minute substitute, Richard A. Carne--and began serving in 2003 (108th Congress).
Turner is a member of the Armed Services and Government Reform committees.
Turner's wife's name is Lori. He is a member of the Delta Sigma Phi fraternity.
His opponent for re-election in 2004 was Democrat Jane Mitakides.
