Middletown Springs is a town located in Rutland County, Vermont. As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 823.

Geography

According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 59.2 km² (22.9 mi²). 59.2 km² (22.8 mi²) of it is land and none of the area is covered with water.

Demographics

As of the census2 of 2000, there are 823 people, 331 households, and 237 families residing in the town. The population density is 13.9/km² (36.0/mi²). There are 397 housing units at an average density of 6.7/km² (17.4/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 97.81% White, 0.49% African American, 0.49% Native American, 0.36% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.24% from other races, and 0.61% from two or more races. 0.49% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 331 households out of which 31.4% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 61.0% are married couples living together, 7.9% have a female householder with no husband present, and 28.1% are non-families. 22.7% of all households are made up of individuals and 8.8% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.49 and the average family size is 2.92.

In the town the population is spread out with 24.9% under the age of 18, 5.3% from 18 to 24, 28.3% from 25 to 44, 29.2% from 45 to 64, and 12.3% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 41 years. For every 100 females there are 91.8 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 91.9 males.
