• Titus Andronicus - Titus Andronicus, has his hand cut off by Aaron.
• Aquaman - DC Comics, hand lost in various different manners (depending on the series) and replaced with a harpoon head (later an advanced cybernetically-controlled version of the same) and eventually with a hand-shaped field of water.
• Colonel Steve Austin - The Six Million Dollar Man and the book Cyborg by Martin Caidin, lost right arm in test flight accident, in addition to both legs and left eye. Replaced by cybernetic implants provided by Office of Scientific Intelligence.

B

• Bink - Xanth Cut off finger in in childhood playing with a large knife. Restored later by a healing spring.
• Frodo Baggins - The Lord of the Rings had a finger bitten off by Gollum.
• Baiken - Guilty Gear, lost her right arm and left eye in a Gear attack on Japan.
• Beren - Lord of the Rings, had one hand bitten off by a giant wolf.
• Jet Black - Cowboy Bebop, lost left arm in an attempt to capture assassin Udai Taxim, has a cybernetic replacement.
• Buddy Threadgoode, Jr. - , Fried Green Tomatoes, lost arm after being hit by a train
• Buster Bluth - Arrested Development, left hand bitten off at the wrist by a seal; replaced with a mechanical hook.

C

• The Claw - Inspector Gadget; in the television series, no explanation was ever given; in the movie, he only lost his hand, and it was in an accident with a bowling ball.
• Cobra - Space Adventure Cobra, has left arm replaced by the Psychogun, which can transform to act as a normal hand.
• Corum - fictional character created by Michael Moorcock, cut off during torture.

• Colonel Daren - Red Dead Revolver video game, left arm at the shoulder is blown off by Red Harlow using his father's Scorpion gun.
• Goldeneyes Silverhand Didactylos - Discworld, had his hand cut off after building the Palace of the Seven Deserts, apparently so he would not build anything better for someone else.

E

• Edward Elric - Fullmetal Alchemist, who lost his left leg in an alchemic ritual to revive his dead mother. Sacrificed his right arm to retrieve his brother's soul and bind it to a suit of armor. Has arm and leg later replaced by auto-mail (cybernetic) prosthetic.

• Fafhrd in the Rime Isle by Fritz Leiber loses a hand.
• Forge - X-Men, lost hand and leg in Vietnam.

G

• Phillip Michael Gerard a.k.a. Mike - Twin Peaks
• Lewis Gillies - in Stephen R. Lawhead's Song of Albion (based on Llew Llaw Gyffes and Nuada)
• Guts - Berserk, cuts off his own left arm to escape from the maw of a demon, has a rather advanced, spring-loaded prosthesis built around a cannon.

H

• Tee Hee - James Bond villian in the film Live and Let Die, in which he used a mechanical hook for his lost hand, which he claims was lost to an alligator.
• Herman - The Simpsons
• Honor Harrington - part of the Honorverse.
• Captain James Hook - Peter Pan, right hand cut off by Peter, which is then eaten by a crocodile.

K

• Inspector Kemp - Young Frankenstein, arm torn off by Victor Frankenstein's monster.
• KGBeast - DC Comics, severs own hand to escape capture. Replaced with device equipped with various weapons.
• Alex Krycek - The X-Files, arm amputated by Russian villagers.

L

• Lavinia - Titus Andronicus, has both hands cut off during her rape by the Goth Queen's sons.
• Kelly Layzner - Gundam 0083, Zeon mobile suit pilot who lost his left arm in battle.
• Felix Leiter - James Bond - in the Bond novels (but not the films), Felix has a prosthetic mechanical claw after being mauled by a shark and consequently losing an arm and a leg in Live and Let Die. In the film series, he is fed to a shark in Licence to Kill, losing a leg only.
• Lex Luthor - DC Comics, left hand amputated and replaced with mechanical prosthetic after being irritated by excessive exposure to kryptonite radiation from stone placed in a signet ring. Later has entire body regrown.

• Mitsume, an assassin in the manga series The Demon Ororon, is missing one arm and several fingers on his remainging hand
• Roy Munson - Kingpin, the state bowling champion of 1979 until he had his hand cut off by street punks.
• Hauptmann Hermann Musk - Stalingrad, assumed to have lost hand during combat prior to the Battle of Stalingrad, uses molded prosthetic hands to issue orders or use weapons.

• Dr. Julius No, villain in the James Bond books, both hands replaced by prosthetics
• Nuada of the Silver Hand in Irish-Celtic mythology

O

• Revolver Ocelot - Metal Gear Solid series, right hand severed by Gray Fox. Later replaced with transplant from Liquid Snake.
• "The One-armed man" - killer of Dr. Richard Kimble's wife on the television series The Fugitive

• Meredith Peters a.k.a. "the Hook Lady" - Boston Public, lost her hand while escaping from her son.
• Chubbs Peterson - Happy Gilmore, lost his right hand to an alligator while trying to retreive a golf ball, wears a hook.

R

• Lieutenant Jean Rasczak - Starship Troopers, assumed to have lost hand during Mobile Infantry service, uses cybernetic replacement when remobilized into active service.

S

• Sesshōmaru - Lost his arm in a battle with his younger brother InuYasha, who cut it off with the mystical (and sharp) sword Tessaiga.
• Shiba Kuukaku, Bleach - missing her right arm
• Shira - Blade of the Immortal, has his arm cut off by the immortal ronin Manji, later removes the flesh and sharpens the exposed bone into a weapon.
• Siamese - Kabuki, formerly conjoined twins, fused at the shoulder (some sources say elbow). Detachable cybernetic arms have replaced the separation point.
• Laeral Silverhand of the Seven Sisters - Forgotten Realms, lost an arm in an attack by the minions of the phaerimm in the Return of the Archwizards Trilogy.
• Skinner - one of Jupiter's rats in The Dark Portal, of the Deptford mice series by Robin Jarvis; has a 'peeler' (knife) attached to his stump, instead of an arm.
• Luke Skywalker - Star Wars series, hand severed in lightsaber duel with Darth Vader, replaced with a cybernetic prosthetic.
• Commandant Edwin Spangler - Malcolm in the Middle, commandant of Marlin Military Academy. Wears a hook as a replacement for his lost hand, as well as an artificial leg and eyepatch. At the beginning of the third season, Francis accidentally slices off his other hand after being gifted by Spangler with a ceremonial sword.

• Tetsuo, Akira, loses arm to a laser blast from an orbiting satellite, later telekinetically rebuilds a replacement from his flesh and surrounding steel.
• Anton Tobias - lead role in the movie Idle Hands, played by Devon Sawa
• Tyr - god of warfare and battle in Norse mythology; hand bitten off by the Fenrisulfr

V

• Vash the Stampede - Trigun, left arm blown off in a battle with his brother Millions Knives, replaced with artificial arm concealing a machine gun.
• Vecna - Dungeons and Dragons, hand severed when betrayed by his lieutenant Kas. The hand itself becomes a powerful magic relic. Also missing eye.
• Vera Black - Justice League Elite, lost arms in childhood incident, replaced with advanced cybernetics.

W

• Andrew Waltfeld - from Gundam Cosmic Era. Also lost a leg and an eye.
• Ashley J. 'Ash' Williams - Evil Dead trilogy, cuts own right hand off after it has been possessed by demons.

• Second Lieutenant Shiro Amada - Mobile Suit Gundam: The 08th MS Team, loses leg in battle with the experimental mobile armor Apsalus.
• Captain Ahab - Moby Dick, lost leg to the titular whale.

• Felix Leiter - James Bond - In the film series, he is fed to a shark in Licence to Kill, losing a leg.
• Lil' Brudder from Homestar Runner, a dog with only one leg.
• Dr. Arliss Loveless - Wild Wild West (the movie); in the television series, Dr. Miguelito Loveless was a dwarf, but his appendages were all present.

• The Black Knight Monty Python and The Holy Grail - had all limbs cut off by King Arthur
• Joe Bonham - Johnny Got His Gun, lost all four limbs and his face from artillery explosion.

• Shiro Sanda (Stephen Sandor) - Space Battleship Yamato (Star Blazers), lost limbs in a rocket car accident in his childhood, has bionic replacements.
• "Threeparts" Scallot Discworld (Monstrous Regiment), Borogravian soldier missing both legs, an arm, and an eye.
• Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader - Star Wars series, right arm first severed in lightsaber duel with Count Dooku. Later loses left arm and both legs in a duel with Obi-Wan Kenobi. All replaced with cybernetic prosthetics.

• Weeble Kneeble - Blue Collar TV, Daredevil who lost both arms and both legs in a stunt involving sharks.
