List of Tekken characters

The main story revolves around a series of tournaments held by the Mishima Zaibatsu, a Japanese conglomerate run by Heihachi Mishima. Originally called the Rave War, it is renamed King of the Iron Fist Tournament by the time Tekken 3 is held. The timeline is held about 30 years in the future for the first two Tekken tournaments, then fast-forwards to 50 years in the future for the next three Tekken Tournaments. During that time more characters with different martial arts skills enter the storyline.

The following is a list of characters from the Tekken fighting game series.

Kazuya Mishima

Image:Kazuya_Tekken_2.PNG

Son of Heihachi Mishima and father of Jin Kazama. Fights using the Mishima style. He was abused as a child by his father, being thrown from a cliff to test his strength as the highlight. Kazuya managed to recover and made a pact with Devil in order to become strong enough to defeat Heihachi. Kazuya also felt his father was favoring his foster brother, Lee, over him when he sent Lee to study in America, which he deemed ridiculous since he was so much stronger than his brother. At the end of the Tekken tournament, Kazuya faced Lee and defeated him. He then battled Heihachi, the King of the Iron Fist using his Devil powers, winning the tournament.

A year passes after Tekken 1. Meanwhile, having gained leadership of the Zaibatsu he hires Ganryu, Anna Williams, and Bruce Irvin as his bodyguards and appoints Lee as his secretary (during which time they were on considerably better terms). Kazuya was inexplicably attracted to Jun Kazama upon seeing her and she brought out his more human side, which was no small feat. Jun is also drawn to him, most likely due to her protective motherly side. They conceive a child. During Tekken 2 Heihachi turned out to still be alive after all - surviving the fall from a tall cliff that Kazuya threw him from. After winning the Tekken 2 contest, in a twist of malicious irony, Heihachi drops Kazuya into a volcano.

Unbeknownst to Heihachi, a few days after, Kazuya's body was found by the G Corporation and he was resurrected with superior genetic technology. He stayed in their headquaters to figure out how to control the Devil Gene he got after he was thrown down the cliff. 20 years later, he entered Tekken 4 in order to take his final revenge from his father. Kazuya loses both to Jin and Heihachi, but manages to escape the Jack-4s during their attack on Hon Maru by throwing Heihachi in to the pile.

Two months later, Kazuya enters Tekken 5 to find out who tried to destroy him, and who was now behind the Zaibatsu.

Jin Kazama

Also known as the boy who became a protagonist against all odds. He grew up in the forest with his mother, Jun, not knowing anything about his father, Kazuya Mishima, until one fateful night Toshin (the god of fighting) decided to attack Jun Kazama. Jin ran out of the house before it happened so he did not see it, but to assume his mother anything but dead would have been ludicrous. Thus, with nowhere to go, he sought out his grandfather Heihachi in hopes of Heihachi training him to be a fighter competent enough to avenge his mother. Heihachi, however, intended to merely use him as a pawn in his quest to harness Ogre. Jin ended up defeating Ogre but was immediately shot in the forehead by Heihachi, having served his purpose. It was then that the Devil within Jin - for he had inherited the Devil's blood from his father - awakened and saved him from death while lunging and slamming Heihachi into the concrete ground for good measure.

He flies away and then disappears for 2 years, during which he hides in Brisbane, Australia. He returns in Tekken 4 with the resolve to disavow his cursed blood; he learns a new fighting style and decides to set about killing both Kazuya and Heihachi. Jin is the winner of Tekken 4 and does not kill anyone. He flies away after the fight in Hon-Maru but then, an army of Jack-4's invade and explode the Hon-Maru, rumoured to have killed Heihachi, while Kazuya escapes. During his flight, Jin loses conscienceness by an evil presense. When he woke, he found himself in a destroyed mountain forest, having no doubt it was his own doing. Jin feels the Devil's blood persisting in his veins as he enters Tekken 5.

Heihachi Mishima

Missing image
Heihachi.PNG
Image:Heihachi.PNG

The host of the "King of the Iron Fist Tournament", Jin's grandfather, fights with the power of the Mishima Style Karate. Every few years he hosts the "King of the Iron Fist Tournament" offering a fablous prize, which in Tekken 4 is the reward of owning the Mishima Zaibatsu, to attract the strongest fighters all over the world. At the end of the tournament, he fights the last man standing in the contest. In the first Tekken contest he is beaten by his son, Kazuya. Kazuya tosses him off a cliff just as had been done to him when he was younger by Heihachi. In Tekken 2 it turns out he did not die from the fall. He returns to find his son is holding another "King of the Iron Fist Tournament." After winning the contest he has a showdown with Kazuya, who turns into Devil before their last fight. After defeating Kazuya/Devil he tosses his body into a volcano.

In Tekken 3, 19 years after Tekken 2, his Tekken Forces (Tekkenshu in the Japanese version) find ruins in South America and discover Ogre who destroys them all. Heihachi takes in Jin and teaches him Mishima style karate for his own selfish purposes of getting to Ogre. Jin succeeds and wins the tournament but Heihachi betrays him and shoots him in the forehead. After Tekken 3 Heihachi intends to combine his own DNA with that of Ogre, but he discovers that he would need the Devil Gene that Kazuya and Jin possess in order to combine the DNA. 2 years later, Heihachi's forces raid the G Corporation's facilities to discover that Kazuya has been resurrected by the corporation. He holds Tekken 4 in attempt to lure Kazuya so that he may capture Kazuya and experiment on him to extract the "Devil gene" for his own evil purposes. Jin is the winner of Tekken 4 and directly after a fight at Hon-Maru (a shrine located on Heihachi's compound) he flies away without killing anyone.

Right after Jin's departure an army of Jack-4 units sent by the G Corporation invade Hon-Maru. Heihachi and Kazuya fight together, managing to destroy several Jacks, but Kazuya throws Heihachi to the Jacks and uses the opportunity to escape. One of the Jacks activates a self-destruct sequence, detonating and completely destroying Hon-Maru, leaving the the character Raven (and the player) to believe Heihachi is dead. But like most characters in Namco's Tekken series, Heihachi survives the near impossible odds to take part in the 5th tournament.

Fought in: Tekken, Tekken 2, Tekken 3, Tekken Tag, Tekken 4, Tekken 5, Soul Calibur II (extra character on the Playstation 2 version).

Nina Williams

An Irish Assassination Martial Artist who borrows concepts from Aikido and Bone Martial Arts and who shares a rivalry with her sister, Anna. Nina blames Anna for the death of their father, Richard Williams. She has a history of being contracted to kill Mishimas and failing due to untimely quarrels with her sister; she was captured by Kazuya Mishima after failing to assassinate him in Tekken 2 and used as a guinea pig in the "cold sleep" project (cryonisation). She has lost her memory as a result and during Tekken 3 was controlled by Ogre and manipulated to try and kill Jin Kazama. In Tekken 4 she was returning to life as an assassin and hired by the mob to kill Steve Fox, who turned out to be her son from being artificially impregnated while in cold sleep. She has no memories of her previous life or Anna, but is trying to confront Anna to help her regain her memories.

Fought in: Tekken, Tekken 2, Tekken 3, Tekken Tag, Tekken 4, Tekken 5

Anna Williams

Nina's brunette sister also trained in Assassination Martial Arts; Extrovert extraordinaire. Anna blames Nina for the death of their father, Richard Williams. Made a point through Tekkens 1-3 of foiling all of Nina's assassination attempts by showing up at exactly the wrong place and the wrong time, and is portrayed as an all-around nicer, more sociable person than her sister (as well as more suggestive in Tekken 5). She was hired in Tekken 2 to be Kazuya's bodyguard along with Bruce Irvin and Ganryu, and during that time was (allegedly) a girlfriend to Lee ChaoLan until that part of her life was cut short by choosing to be put into "cold sleep" with her sister (the storyline is ambiguous regarding the cause -- she said she didn't want to turn old while her sister remained young, but it's hinted that in actuality would miss her sister who she really just wants to be at peace with). She did not lose her memory and was not controlled by Ogre upon waking from Cold Sleep, unlike her sister, and attended Tekken 3 in an attempt to stop Nina from becoming an assassin again. In Tekken 4 she is mysteriously and inexplicably absent, but now she's back in Tekken 5, to settle the score between her and Nina after a massive gunfight.

Fought in: Tekken, Tekken 2, Tekken 3, Tekken Tag, Tekken 5.

Paul Phoenix

Judo expert, Tekken veteran and a good friend of the Law's. His fighting skills, a mixture of kickboxing and judo, have achieved the legendary status, yet whenever he makes it to the final battle there is always something along the lines of a traffic jam, a silly mistake or some other thing to prevent him from winning the tournament. He tied with Kazuya Mishima during Tekken 2, which was no small feat considering Kazuya had the Devil's powers to help him. He defeats Heihachi and Jin during Tekken 3 and moves on to defeat Ogre. What he didn't realize was in his swelling of pride and rush to get home, Ogre had transformed into his True form and the tournament continued without Paul. Gradually, the people's respect for his claim to be the world's greatest fighter declined and his dojo went bankrupt. He ended up on the streets until he saw an ad about the Tekken 4 Tournament. He loses to Kuma in the tournament, but this does not deter him from entering Tekken 5.

Fought in: Tekken, Tekken 2, Tekken 3, Tekken Tag, Tekken 4, Tekken 5.

Hwoarang

A Tae Kwon Do fighter. Rival of Jin Kazama and former student of Baek Doo San. He used to enter underground prize fights for money and ran a street gang. When he received word of Baek's death at the hands of Ogre, he entered Tekken 3 to seek revenge. He also desires to settle a score with Jin Kazama, who fought him to an embarrassing draw during a match. He has been drafted into the Korean armed forces (South Korea males have mandatory military service) when he hears about Tekken 4; he subsequently deserts to enter the tournament. After Tekken 4 he is taken into custody and ordered to serve out the remainder of his military service. He finishes his service two months later, just in time for him to enter Tekken 5.

Hwoarang finishing his military dues in a mere two months is almost certainly through some sort of special pardon. It is likely that the Korean government let him off so that he could take down the Mishima Zaibatsu.

Fought in: Tekken 3, Tekken Tag, Tekken 4, Tekken 5.

Marshall Law

A Chinese American who models himself after Bruce Lee. He is a close friend of Paul Phoenix during Tekken 1 and 2, but they fall out after Paul convinces his son Forest to enter Tekken 3. Marshall's Chinese restaurant closes after he loses a bidding war to a competitor, and he decides to enter Tekken 4 to regain the fighting spirit he lost. Destitute, he stays in Japan to wash dishes when he learns that Forrest gets into a motorcycle accident on Paul's Bike. Marshall enters Tekken 5 in order to pay the medical bills.

Fought in: Tekken, Tekken 2, Tekken 4, Tekken 5.

Forest Law

A Chinese fighter based on Bruce Lee. Forest is Marshall Law's son and a good friend of Paul Phoenix, much like his father. He dislikes riding on Paul's motorcycle as it makes him nauseous. He only appeared in Tekken 3, as Paul encouraged him to do so in order to prove he was a stronger fighter than his father. Two games later, he would be involved in a major traffic accident, having taken Paul Phoenix's bike for a joyride.

Fought in: Tekken 3, Tekken Tag.

Lei Wulong

A five-form martial artist based on Jackie Chan. During Tekken 2 and 3, Lei was a respected police officer dubbed "super police" who put countless criminals behind bars. He was investigating the illegal hunting and trading of endangered animals done by the Mishima Zaibatsu during Tekken 2. Before Tekken 3 he is investigating the drug dealer Bruce Irvin before Bruce is "killed", and sets out to stop the assassin (Nina Williams) the English Mafia sent to kill Steve Fox during Tekken 4 in order to restore his waning reputation. Lei is fond of naps. He enters Tekken 5 to help Asuka Kazama who is looking for the man who nearly killed her father. He is also attempting to destroy the Mishima Zaibatsu with the help of Steve Fox.

Fought in: Tekken 2, Tekken 3, Tekken Tag, Tekken 4, Tekken 5.

Yoshimitsu

An ancient armored warrior trained in Advanced Manji Ninja Arts who loves to play arcade games in Kyoto, Japan. A benevolent "Robin Hood" type bandit, Yoshimitsu takes from the rich and gives to the poor. His chief rival is Kunimitsu, a member of a rival Ninja clan. He lost his left arm after Tekken 1 in a shoot-out. He is a close friend of Dr. Boskonovich. He enters Tekken 2 in order to save Boskonovich who is kidnapped by the Mishima Zaibatsu. In Tekken 3, Boskonovich enlists Yoshimitsu's help to recover some of Ogre's blood so that may cure an illness that the Doctor has. He enters the 4th Tekken tournament in order to win the prize of the Mishima Zaibatsu so that he can help more unfortunate people. Though he did not win, he does help a dying Bryan Fury to Boskonovich's lab. This however backfired on Yoshimitsu (see Bryan Fury below). Yoshimitsu enters Tekken 5 to take revenge on Bryan who had betrayed him. We do not know whether Yoshimitsu is a robot or human, many people assume him to be half-man, half-robot and some people believe he is an alien. In Tekken 1, his appearance and moves were that of an ordinary man, but his character design has become increasingly more unhuman throughout Tekken's sequels.

The Soul Calibur Yoshimitsu and Tekken Yoshimitsu are believed not to be the same person even though they have the same style. Soul Calibur takes place in the 16th century while Tekken is set in present day.

Fought in: Tekken, Tekken 2, Tekken 3, Tekken Tag, Tekken 4, Tekken 5.

Bryan Fury

Kick boxer who was Lei Wulong's rival. After his death due to a failed attempt at crossing two gangs at once, Bryan was reanimated by Dr. Abel as a cyborg with the mission of targeting Yoshimitsu and Dr. Boskonovich, Abel's rival. Bryan still has a grudge against Lei. In Tekken 4 his body is near destruction, but Abel has abandoned him and is working for the Mishima Zaibatsu. Bryan knows the end of his life is near, so he must defeat Heihachi. After the tournament he confronts Abel, knocks him down, and at the same time falls to the ground unconscious. But Bryan is saved by Yoshimitsu and brought to Dr. Boskonovitch, who says the key to defeating Abel's bio-weapon is contained within Bryan's body. Bryan is to get a new body, but due to the abrupt death of Heihachi, someone announces Tekken 5 just months after Tekken 4. Bryan's new body is not finished but Boskonovitch has given him a new perpetual energy generator. When hearing this, Bryan pushes Dr. B. aside and proceeds to slaughter the people he finds in the lab. Bryan enters Tekken 5 to test out the power his new generator has given him. When Yoshimitsu hears this, he is infuriated and decides to enter Tekken 5 in pursuit of Bryan.

While Heihachi trained Kazuya in the art of Mishima Karate, Lee studied under Paul Phoenix and Marshal Law in the U.S. This is the reason for some of the moves that Lee shares with Paul and Law. Supposedly around the events of Tekken 2, he had a romantic connections to Anna Williams until she chose to put herself in cold sleep along with her sister. After the 2nd King of the Iron Fist Tournament he went into seclusion in the Bahamas and became a businessman. In Tekken 4, he is the head of a successful robotics company and has built Combot. Needing finances for the building of the orphanage, King discovers the King of Iron Fist Tournament. Against the monastery's order not to join, King enters the tournament. He did receive the money, but with a heavy price: he was excommunicated from his order. King once again went back to the streets and soon, he became miserable and started drinking. He would have perished had he not been convinced by his old friend, Armor King, to again wear the Jaguar Mask and join The Second Iron Fist Tournament. The second tournament gave King another reason to live: for the sake of the children in his orphanage. After the tournament, King participated in both pro-wrestling and martial arts tournaments to win money for his orphanage. He also taught his fighting skills to the children under his care as a means of self-defense. One of them, a young man, took up both the mantle and the mask shortly after the first King was killed by Ogre, and went on to participate in Tekken 3. Now 27, he received further training from Armor King, only to become furious when Craig Marduk killed Armor King in a bar brawl. At the end of Tekken 4 it is discovered that she is his biological mother. After finding out the details of how he was born, Steve enters Tekken 5 to destroy the Mishima Zaibatsu with the help of Lei Wulong.

Steve's father isn't mentioned anywhere in the Tekken 4's story. Many believe that Kazuya or Lee is the father, but they're just speculations.

The three started fighting so violently that the plane crashed, and Bruce was the only survivor. He was picked up by Kazuya Mishima's men and became his bodyguard. After fighting Lei in Tekken 2, Bruce escaped by plane once again, but this time the plane exploded... Many thought that Bruce was dead, but over the years since Tekken 2, Bruce has been working for several special units, and is currently working as a survival technical guidance instructor. He enters Tekken 5 in order to offer his services to Mishima Zaibatsu once again.

Wang Jin-Rei

Wang was a companion of Jinpachi Mishima; Heihachi's father. Wang watched Heihachi and Kazuya with great interest as they grew and chose their respective paths of life. Wang remained generous and kind whilst living as a recluse in the Mishima gardens. Now, Wang tends to the huge number of vegetables in the gardens, finding time to hone his awesome (and highly individual) martial arts skill. Every morning at the crack of dawn, he can be seen strolling down the mountains gazing at the clouds. His lithe athletiscism, despite his age, has meant that his inner chi strength is channelled with great purity of spirit, despite his frail bones. His reason for entering the second tournament is to carry out the final wishes of the long-dead Jinpachi. During his life, Jinpachi watched with grief as Heihachi and Kazuya followed the path of evil. He instructed his faithful friend to eliminate both of them when the time was right. Wang theorises that the best way to fulfill this plea is to face all challengers giving way to those adept enough to defeat Kazuya and dispatches those unworthy of his attention. Heihachi will stare into the face of destiny at another time. Wang enters the fifth tournament to find out the authenticity of a letter he received, noting that Jinpachi had come back.

Fought in: Tekken, Tekken 2, Tekken Tag, Tekken 5.

Ogre/True Ogre

Ogre

Final Boss in Tekken 3. God of Fighting infused with mythical powers. Heihachi Mishima was after him to use his blood on himself, hoping to enhance the action of the Devil Gene... In the Japanese version Ogre is called Toshin.

Fought in: Tekken 3, Tekken Tag.

True Ogre

True Ogre, who appears after Ogre is defeated in Tekken 3, is the perfect form of Ogre. Ogre achieves this form after absorbing the defeated Heihachi. When you play as True Ogre, the background becomes completely black.

Fought in: Tekken 3, Tekken Tag.

Prototype Jack (P-Jack)

Self-explanatory. Not the first Jack, only a Prototype. Hates all other Jacks and constantly tries to beat them and prove his worth. But being only a silly prototype, he never wins.

The only man in the world who knows the truth about Ogre. After Tekken 4 Yoshimitsu saves Bryan, who is offered a new body by Dr. B., but due to that Tekken 5 is announced just months after Tekken 4, the new body isn't complete. Bryan is given a new battery. When Bryan hears this, he pushes Dr. B. aside and kills some of Yoshimitsu's fellow Manjis who tried to stop him.

Fought in: Tekken 3.

Unknown

Tortured soul enslaved by a wolf spirit. In the game she has the ability of mimicry like Mokujin but with one exception, she can change her mimicked fighting style during the match (human players of Unknown can do this by pressing the R3 button on the PS2). She only appears in Tekken Tag Tournament and as one may expect, not much is known about her. The most common speculation is that she is a transmogrified Jun Kazama. This is evidenced by the fact that Unknown's facial features are very similar to that of Jun's. Furthermore, when Unknown is played (by a human player) as the starting team member she always starts with Jun's fighting style.

Tekken Tag Tournament is not a part of the storyline so Unknown will probably not be in any other Tekken game.

Fought in: Tekken Tag.

Combot

Robot adaptoid built for the 4th King of Iron Fist Tournament by Lee Chaolan. Due to the rush needed to complete it in time, it can only memorize one style at a time.

A special agent who reports that Heihachi is dead and enters Tekken 5 in order to find out who is holding the tournament. Seems to be modeled after the character Blade and has an X-scar on his face. Knows Ninjitsu and is similar to Kunimitsu.

Fought in: Tekken 5.

Feng-Wei

A Chinese Kenpo master who enters Tekken 5 to prove he is the best fighter in the world. His Master was against his pupils fighting other styles of martial arts, but Feng Wei had participated in many other martial art championships. His Master then tried to stop him, and in a gruesome fight was killed by his own student, Feng Wei. Feng enters the tournament to retrieve the Secret Principles of the Dragon Fist from the Mishimas.

However, the immense anger he displayed towards Heihachi manifested into the Devil, allowing him to be reborn when the wave of Jack-4 units "killed" Heihachi and the Hon-Maru was destroyed.
