In Squaresoft's high-profile video game series Final Fantasy, Leviathan is one of the familiar stock summoned creatures. In the series, he is portrayed as a sinuous, coiling sea serpent and uses a water spell to deluge the enemies in a giant wave.
More than just an attack spell, Leviathan is sometimes given dialogue and even plot. In the case of Final Fantasy IV, he causes a shipwreck and later serves as a surrogate parent to one of the main characters, a little girl named Rydia.
