Leslie Whittington

Leslie Whittington (also known as Leslie A. Whittington) is known nationally in the U. S. for her research on marital disincentives created by the "marriage tax". Whittington was an associate professor of public policy for Georgetown University.
Whittington received her master's degree in economics from the University of Colorado in 1987 and her doctoral degree in 1989. She received a bachelor's degree in business from Regis College's (part of Regis University) School for Professional Studies in 1984. Whittington was an associate professor of public policy for Georgetown University.
She died in the crash of American Airlines flight 77 in the September 11, 2001 Terrorist Attack, along with the rest of her immediate family. They were on their way to Australia for Leslie's sabbatical from her work. Her husband was Charles S. Falkenberg (a software engineer for ECOlogic Corp in Herndon, Virginia). They met at East High School in Denver, Colorado; however they did not date till after graduation. Their daughters were Zoe Falkenberg (born November 8, 1992) and Dana Falkenberg (July 21, 1998). They were both born after the couple moved to Maryland around 1989.
The National Association of Schools of Public Affairs and Administration (NASPAA) has named their Excellence in Teaching award after her.
