Lenawee County is a county located in the state of Michigan. As of 2003, the population estimate is 100,786. Its county seat is Adrian6.

Geography

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 1,972 km² (761 mi²). 1,944 km² (750 mi²) of it is land and 28 km² (11 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 1.42% water.

As of the census2 of 2000, there are 98,890 people, 35,930 households, and 26,049 families residing in the county. The population density is 51/km² (132/mi²). There are 39,769 housing units at an average density of 20/km² (53/mi²). The racial makeup of the county is 92.51% White, 2.12% Black or African American, 0.41% Native American, 0.46% Asian, 0.01% Pacific Islander, 3.01% from other races, and 1.49% from two or more races. 6.96% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 35,930 households out of which 34.20% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 58.70% are married couples living together, 10.00% have a female householder with no husband present, and 27.50% are non-families. 22.90% of all households are made up of individuals and 9.70% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.61 and the average family size is 3.07.

In the county the population is spread out with 25.90% under the age of 18, 9.10% from 18 to 24, 28.60% from 25 to 44, 23.70% from 45 to 64, and 12.70% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 36 years. For every 100 females there are 100.10 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 98.00 males.

The median income for a household in the county is $45,739, and the median income for a family is $53,661. Males have a median income of $38,458 versus $25,510 for females. The per capita income for the county is $20,186. 6.70% of the population and 4.40% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 7.10% of those under the age of 18 and 9.20% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
