League City, Texas

League City is a city located in Texas, partially in Galveston County and partially in Harris County. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 45,444.

League City is home to several water-side resorts that are used by people from nearby Houston, as well as people all over the Houston Metropolitan Area.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 135.6 km² (52.3 mi²). 132.7 km² (51.2 mi²) of it is land and 2.9 km² (1.1 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 2.12% water.

Demographics

As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there are 45,444 people, 16,189 households, and 12,465 families residing in the city. The population density is 342.4/km² (886.9/mi²). There are 17,280 housing units at an average density of 130.2/km² (337.2/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 83.99% White, 5.09% African American, 0.37% Native American, 3.17% Asian, 0.05% Pacific Islander, 5.29% from other races, and 2.04% from two or more races. 13.49% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 16,189 households out of which 42.6% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 65.4% are married couples living together, 8.2% have a female householder with no husband present, and 23.0% are non-families. 18.4% of all households are made up of individuals and 3.2% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.78 and the average family size is 3.19.

In the city the population is spread out with 29.4% under the age of 18, 6.6% from 18 to 24, 35.9% from 25 to 44, 22.2% from 45 to 64, and 5.9% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 34 years. For every 100 females there are 99.0 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 97.5 males.

The median income for a household in the city is $67,838, and the median income for a family is $72,760. Males have a median income of $52,366 versus $34,301 for females. The per capita income for the city is $27,170. 4.8% of the population and 3.6% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 4.9% of those under the age of 18 and 6.0% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.

Education

Clear Creek Independent School District is based in League City. Most pupils in League City attend schools in Clear Creek ISD. Some attend school in Dickinson ISD.
