John Fitzpatrick, 1st Earl of Upper Ossory, in County Cork Ireland
Decended from Barnaby Fitzpatrick 1st B. Upper Ossory, who took an oath of allegiance to King Henry VIII on October 8 1537. He was one of the first in Ireland to do so and as a reward, he was knighted on June 11 1541. He married Margaret Butler, daughter of Earl Butler the Lord Deputy of Ireland.
- Sir John Fitzpatrick gained the Earldom in 1714
- In 1878 his descendants are recorded as possessing no less than twenty-two thousand acres (89 km²) of the best land in Ossory
