History
The airline was established in 2002 and started operations on 12 February 2003. Jet2.com established a second base in Manchester in December 2004, with a secondary hub at Belfast International Airport in Northern Ireland. Plans for flights from Belfast to Cork were abandoned in February 2005 due to poor forward bookings. In 2005 Jet2.com began operating flights from Manchester to London Gatwick in competition with British Airways. It is wholly owned by Dart Group and employs about 250 people.
Unlike many other low cost carriers, Jet2.com tend to use principal airports such as Marco Polo International Airport in Venice and Charles de Gaulle International Airport in Paris. Like other low-cost carriers, tickets may only be booked over the internet or by telephone. Seats are allocated at check in, on a first come first served basis.
