The statue of SAS founder Colonel Sir David Stirling, standing on the Hill of Row near his family's estate at Park of Keir near Dunblane in central Scotland. The statue, which is located off the B824 between Doune and Dunblane, shows Sir David in an active, windswept pose, staring west toward the Trossachs mountains. In his left hand (unseen in this photo) are a pair of binoculars.
Funds for the bronze statue (which reportedly cost around £150,000) were raised by the SAS Regimental Association (SASRA) and by various private contributors. When the statue was unveiled in April 2002 newspapers reported around one third of the regiment was in attendance (ceremonially), with another third concealed in the surrounding countryside to provide security.
